So I was rewatching Steven Universe and something kind of stuck out.
We have Lapis who explicitly knew who the Crystal Gems were (and how they only cared about Earth and not other gems), Peridot who didn’t and Jasper just referred to them as “Rose’s army”. So its safe to say that Peridot had nothing to do with the war (or came after it idk), Jasper just fought in it, but I feel like Lapis was the most involved since she knew the specific name of their group. Considering her distain for them and Earth I feel like its a safe bet that she wasn’t on Rose’s side so she was probably with Blue Diamond (also considering she’s blue).
When she’s released in Ocean Gem she goes “Do you even now who I used to be?”. So I don’t think that she was just a supporter or follower of blue diamond but she was much more important.
And then in Serious Steven we see this which could be Rose fighting Blue Diamond:

She’s drawing up something from the ground that kind of looks like water doesn’t it?
Lapis is a Gem comprised of multiple minerals and associated with royalty and power
What if Lapis is Blue Diamond’s daughter?
Also when she’s being released from the mirror water forms a pattern around Steven
And it kind of looks like a cut diamond pattern

What if the diamonds are fusions and lapis is one of the gems needed for two. That’s why they report to yellow diamond not blue or white?

to be fair, irrational anger and paranoia are symptoms that present as an attack on the people who are trying to be supportive.
it’s no surprise that it’s easier for people to find ways to support someone who is sad than someone who is furious, because we haven’t evolved to be afraid of sadness.

so im at work and bagging for this lady and her little kid and the kids askin me about what its like being a big kid and all that so he goes “do you have a girlfriend? is she pretty?” and i live in a pretty liberal area and it was pretty quiet in the store so i just calmly responded “actually i have a boyfriend, but he’s fairly pretty” and the mom just kinda pauses on her phone and looks down at her son like please dont say anything bad please dont embarrass me but he just gets so fuckin excited and is like “you can do that ???? i didnt know boys were allowed to have boyfriends!!” and hes turns to his mom and is pulling at her phone trying to get her attention and is just really excited like “mom did you know that ? can i have a boyfriend instead of a girlfriend ??” and she just started laughing and was like “if you want sure” and they took their groceries and left and im just standing there like
Yes, I see it now. This character is clearly evil incarnate, and totally not just some sad, goofy, overly-dramatic weeb dork raised in a funeral home by two annoyingly genial morticians.
