The concept has practically been some sort of unspoken taboo for so fucking long in entertainment both for children and for adult geeks. How many pale imitations of Looney Tunes did we just live through? How many Ren and Stimpy’s and South Parks and Spongebobs? I still enjoy a lot of those shows but it was still like this non-stop barrage of cynicism, sarcasm and in-your-face “wackiness” for something like 25 years straight, beginning somewhere in the late 80′s to early 90′s, where real tenderness and feeling was either the setup for a punchline or at least kind of on the down-low, sneaking its way into special exceptions like Hey Arnold or little rare moments of the zanier fare.
Police in Flint Michigan have been preying on people’s hopes for clean water, by showing up with filters, then arresting people who have outstanding warrants. Now, the Chief of Police has been fired, without warning, and many believe it is because of the controversy that ensued when the original report went viral.
Local WJRT 12 News confirmed that Flint Police Chief James Tolbert has in fact just had his employment terminated. But police officials would offer us no explanation as to why they fired him. But Chief Tolbert told WJRT that he met with Mayor Karen Weaver and was told “your services will no longer be needed.”
Here’s how it works: the police officer shows up with bottled water or filters. They tell the resident that they are there to give the bottles and/or filter to
them… “but first, we have to cross you off of our list. What’s your full name?”
After the resident has positively identified themselves, the police cuff and arrest them.
They come up with any methods and motives to ruin our lives. They are trying to arrest us for nothing, in the moments of common difficulties, even when we are suffering from a shortage of water! Our grief is a joy for them, I have long understood this simple truth. They get excited when we become weaker. I don’t want the cops were involved in social life, because I do not feel safe!
Call me the Devil’s Advocate, and I do strongly sympathize with the people of Flint, but… These are people with warrants. Not just regular civilians. These are people wanted for a crime. They are innocent until proven guilty, and it is a cheap tactic, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are wanted people.
Most of them have warrants for not paying their water bills, which are through the roof due to the fact that the water isn’t safe in Flint. They’re getting arrested for not being able to afford a basic necessity. People are also losing their homes from these bills, and later on their children.
Thaaat seems contradictory. Your water bill wouldn’t be through the roof if the water wasn’t safe. Your water would be through the roof if it was being used a lot, because they read the meter to bill you, with the exception that some areas charge a minimum. Second, you will not be issued a warrant for not paying your water bill. First, your water will be shut off, and if it doesn’t get paid, then it would be placed in a tax lein against your house. Not cool, but you don’t get a warrant for that. Third, if I remember the abbreviation, the MOHAA is not removing children from homes without water. They are issuing water filters and bottled water, and have reportedly not issued a single complaint against parents without water.
On a side note, if you could not use the water, I would just flat out cancel my water bill and wait for that to get fixed properly. Just keep buying bottled water instead of paying a minimum for water you don’t use. But I dunno how sewage enters into that.
I have this theory that Neville is supposed to represent everything that Peter could have been. You know, both of them were the weak link in the friend group, the guy easily influenced. But instead, Rowling made Neville weak to prove the two paths an individual could take. How each of our weaknesses manifest in different ways. Peter’s weakness made him a villain, ultimately worse than Voldemort because he betrayed his friends, while Neville’s weakness made him work harder and in the end made him Harry’s strongest ally.
Harry = James, Ron = Sirius, Hermione = Remus, Neville = Peter, Ginny = Lily, Luna = Snape.
You will notice that none of the six from the old generation survived. The kids each have traits from the old generation but they’re here to fix the past, and thus must survive the series to metaphorically right the past. Some may raise their eyebrows at Luna as Snape, but just as Harry represents James (the popular kid who was good at quidditch, but didn’t become arrogant like his father) or like Peter and Neville (two people who could have been cowards, but Neville rises to life’s challenges) Luna mirrors Snape in being mocked, a pariah, Looney Lovegood and Snivellus. Instead of being resentful, she rose above it, and loved herself regardless.
If you went with Harry to the Ministry of Magic in book 5, you mattered beyond just backing him up against Voldemort. This core six represented the loss and failure of the Marauders generation, and the hopes of a post-Voldemort future.

your bills. It’s no one’s perigitive that you now have rent to pay.
We have bills to pay to. We don’t need your art, most don’t even want

to pay your bills is a fat lie. You will always need money. You won’t
always have commission work. You not making rent isn’t our problem.

Ensy and Jestre are currently job hunting besides earning money through art or other means.
The only reason we’re tight on cash right now is that we were /just/ kicked out of our homes abruptly and had to move cross-country so we have a lot of expenses that need to be covered.
The first couple of months are going to be rough and this one is rougher since it’s a bit shorter.
