Unpopular opinion that shouldn’t be unpopular: anti-bullying programs in school that don’t address the root causes of bullying - which are almost invariably larger forms of bigotry and oppression like racism, ableism and homophobia - are completely useless and ultimately futile.
When I brought this up in front of the Seattle Times Editorial Board they gave me the strangest look and my heart sort of sank into oblivion.
The whole discourse on bullying is purposefully meant to distract from systems of oppression and to simultaneously place blame on oppression on students in general. The whole thing about middle/high school inherently being a place where children are bullied is also used by school administrators to ignore what influence systemic oppression has in a specific incident (notably when fighting is involved) and then punish the bullied student for their reactions.
this ship was in st john’s harbour for literal years and every time you drove by it would be tilting more to the side, like, to the point that everyone was afraid it would tip over. everyone wanted it gone but no one wanted to get in the frigging ship and sail it away because it was so infested with rats. anyways, i completely forgot about it so it’s good to know it’s still chugging away, infested with rats

Couldn’t you just sink it? I mean, we have people trained to do it, but if they’re not willing to go near it we have submarines with anti-boat torpedoes don’t we? Or, alternatively, napalm and lots of it.
Rats can swim. Sinking it would give them incentive to get off the boat and head for shore.
Couldn’t they just use a tug boat and then sink it?
