Now’s a good time to point out that rey/finn is just as radical and important as finn/poe, because when was the last time you saw a black man romantically involved with a white woman and he didn’t die as an immediate result, it’s not played for laughs, or it’s Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?
We all want canon gayness, but we also want canon interracial relationships, and I know like 70% of y’all aren’t racist, just frustrated with heterosexuality, but intersectionality, my friends.
The thing that irks me the most about both sides of this argument is that they seem to forget that poly relationships are a thing so everyone both could happen.

Also, lore wise, gems age is based on how they feel. Amethyst has grown a lot as a character and is much more mature. This could also result in her looking older.
