I just saw this on insanity in a forum: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result every time. Wonder where that's from?
That’s a phrase that has popped up in literature multiple times, there isn’t entirely a source but it has been used in many books.
However, any person who knows enough about psychology or criminology would know this is not even remotely the definition. Not only is it inaccurate, but it is also broad.
Repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result can be from something as simple as gambling or playing a repetitive game like Solitare or Binding of Isaac. But that’s a conditioning, and not something “insane”
For cases where people are repeating certain unhealthy behaviors and not learning from mistakes, that’s not insanity either. It’s just an inability to learn or problem solve.
I think a more accurate way to describe it is that it’s a form of stupidity, not insanity. And again, that’s fairly broad.
Thank you because that “definition” is so annoying.
What's the definition of insanity? Psychological definition
There is the court’s definition of it, which is “Insanity. n. mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her/his affairs due to psychosis, or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior.”
But that is used in the court of law when someone is trying to plead insanity, and that is just the short definition of it.
In psychology there is no such thing as an “insane” diagnosis. There are MANY things a person can be diagnosed with, and defining it as “insane” is both unprofessional and irrational considering there could be a lot of loopholes and gaps and arguments over what it exactly means.
It’s more a state of mind in a moment, not an overall characteristic of a person.

The good news is I will have money in one week so I may buy one.
So I tried out one of the Public Test Realm games of Town of Salem including the Werewolf role. It’s a cool idea, but not quite ready yet. Totally encourage you to play a game or two over there and see if you can find issues yourself; the more feedback they get the better, probably.
Text indicating that a player was “mauled by a werewolf” does not always appear.
The Werewolf is pretty impossible to find. Unless you happened to be a lookout watching the right house… because they come up as non-suspicious to Sheriffs. Have not yet seen what they come up for as Investigators, but invest + sheriff is how some of the other evil roles get found out. Perhaps a consigliere might have been able to find the Werewolf, which could have helped some, but I think there needs to be a better way to find hints.
This game I played had the entire mafia killed in one day. This meant it dragged on for days and days after with a relatively large town no one able to figure out who the Werewolf was.
Eventually the town started lynching each other trying to get a Werewolf win (which isn’t a flaw of a game, just a flaw of the players). However, by the time we got down to two members of the town, no one could lynch each other and the Werewolf would have to hope there would be a full moon before the “if no one dies by tomorrow the game will end in a draw” rule. So the problem here is: No automatic win for Werewolf when the town is down to two people.
Conclusion: Werewolf can be a bit OP - they ignore all night immunities and are hard to find (considering they only strike once every so many nights and are typically completely non-suspicious - I wonder if they are suspicious during the full moon though? that might help at least a little). However - if the game isn’t All Any and the town’s actually playing the game right, they should be able to systematically work out who is who based on who claims what and the role list like a normal game. If you get stuck with only a Werewolf left to find right now though, prepare for a very slow second half of gameplay.
Werewolf might work better in other game situations. Will have to play again sometime and see.
A possible nerf would be that if a Sheriff visits the werewolf on a full moon, a message could say, “Yeah, that is definitely a werewolf.” It would make Sheriffs have to take risks on full moons as opposed to staying indoors. Sheriffs look for justice and all, so the best time to do it would be a night of an attack.
I agree, but that would take to long, wouldn’t?

I like that TOS is turning into the game that originally introduced me to it (Werewolf) but they should add moderation to the new werewolf character.
Such if sheriff investigates the werewolf on a full moon…? I would like to see an accidental instakill there. Just because.
I’m waiting for a Seer role.
A werewolf can be killed not full moons. I would say that it’s just as powerful as a vet in that killing classes need to get you at the right moment.
I am Silver Tongue, I am an artist. I have many characters and you can check out my art in the art tag. I occasionally practice witchcraft though I don't do anything too complicated. I am girl 2 and don't know what else to put here.
