Silver Tongue

I’m pretty sure steven would watch we bare bears and when he asks garnet what her favourite part is, she would be like “the intro”

omg apparently artificial banana flavoring is based on the gros michel banana which was wiped out by a banana plague in the 50s and the banana we eat today is a totally different thing called the cavendish and thats why banana candy doesnt taste like bananas do you know how lied to i feel. like there was a fucking banana apocalypse and no one told me about it until now

image

We are eating the shadowy remnants of a dead species.

In the interest of accuracy, while it was a fungal plague that pulled the trigger, the real cause of the Gros Michel’s near-extinction was massive inbreeding.

Y’see, folks were very picky about their bananas - they wanted every banana to taste exactly the same. So the big banana producers all started growing the same cultivar - the Gros Michel - and they deliberately inbred that sucker until every banana they picked was essentially identical to every other.

The upshot is that all commercially cultivated bananas suffered from the same weakened immune system, and when a fungal pathogen that could kill one Gros Michel banana plant evolved, it promptly killed all of them.

And the punchline? The banana producers didn’t learn a blessed thing from all this. Instead of diversifying their banana crops, they switched to a new cultivar, the Cavendish, en masse - and today’s Cavendishes are just as inbred as the Gros Michel was back in the day.

Indeed, a second “banana apocalypse” is brewing as we speak; in 2008, a new strain of the same fungus that wiped out the Gros Michel, one that’s capable of attacking the Cavendish, struck banana crops in Malaysia - and in spite of our best efforts to contain it, it’s spreading. According to some estimates, if banana production isn’t diversified soon, the Cavendish could follow the Gros Michel into commercial extinction in as little as ten years.

Isn’t history fun?

HAHAHA HOLY SHIT WE WERE LOOKING AT PICTURES OF SURGERIES IN CLASS AND ALL THE GUYS WERE HOOTING AT THE SLICED BREAST ONES AND THEN THE TEACHER SWITCHED TO A PENIS PIC WHERE IT WAS CUT OPEN AND SOME 300LB JOCK DOUCHEBAG FAINTED RIGHT OUT OF HIS CHAIR BOYS ARE WEAK BOYS ARE FUCKING WEAK

you mean to tell me

that there was a god damn CUT OPEN BOOB

IN SURGERY

AND BOYS WERE STILL SEXUALISING IT

FUCKING MOTHERFUCKING FUCK DOES NO ONE SEE HOW FUCKED UP THIS IS

When I took human anatomy, all the boys were *thrilled* to hold the breast implants, but when the professor brought out the jar of preserved penises we had no male volunteers to handle them. THEN she brought out the penis that had been dissected to show the different canals (it split into three more-or-less even sized pieces) and I think 3 boys went straight down like a sack of potatoes. Several more followed when she started pulling it apart and holding it up for the whole class to see. It was like that scene in Dracula Dead and Loving it where Mel Brooks is trying to gross out the med interns. Like, literally. It was hilarious.

Bonus: my anatomy professor (who is a woman) informed me that she had not once, in her 20 years of teaching the class, had a female fainter. Women are hardcore.

i was re-watching the final agni-kai between zuko and azula and i noticed something

throughout the entire match, zuko and azula are throwing straightforward, linear attacks at one another
image

and they deflect with the same kind of movement
image

but then when zuko does his firespin breakdance thing, its in no way linear, its completely circular
image

up until that point, theyd been doing classical firebending movements, but this one isnt really seen in firebending. but it IS seen in airbending
image

point is, zuko was learning from aang at the same time aang was learning from zuko

somehow this became my most popular post

So zuko has the waterbending style lightning redirect and the airbending style breakdancing so if he can only learn something that’s earth bending style, he would basically be an avatar.

You're pretty immature to say "fuck you" to somebody just because you disagree with them

I would be, if I wasn’t saying it for a valid reason! :)

Yo, kaiuchiha15, it’s not the fact you disagree with us, it’s the fact that your specific disagreement implies an actually literally lethal level of disregard for our wellbeing just because we’re not like you.

Pretty much.

Not to mention the willingness to remain ignorant. How bigoted does someone have to be in order to outright reject anything that isn’t them

Minimum wage= minimum skill and work load for said job. Why not $20 an hour? Why not $100?

hoofprint-is-spooky:

jitterbugjive:

And of course you have THAT viewpoint too, just like the “what next, marrying cows?” argument for gay marriage.

Do you even know what minimum wage was meant to be?

It was meant to be enough for a family to get by.

People have to work 3 jobs now just to afford a cheap appartment.

Fun fact: A study was done, and Minimum Wage jobs are more stressful, and carry a GREATER workload than that of MUCH higher paying jobs. Politicians make more than you or I in a year, but they only work HALF of that year. Less even. And they mostly just sit around and debate.

So tell me, is a job that requires you to do tons of different tasks constantly, less deserving of money than a job that only works half the year, and is a majority of debating?

Also, it is very difficult for people to get a first job. Even if it’s below minimum wage. It took me two years before I actually managed to get a first job and that job paid only $5 an hour because I got tips and I was only shecdualed 3-4 hours a night meaning on a slow night, I was making only like $15-20 on a single night which didn’t even pay for the gas at the time.

Perspective on art pricing…

glacierclear:

My teacher was lecturing in class, and we got into the discussion of pricing your art. He talked about how he priced a 30 minute figure drawing, and got a complaint from someone that a drawing that took 30 minutes shouldn’t cost as much as it did, since it only took the time of 30 minutes to create.

He argued that a customer who buys art isn’t just paying for the time put into that art piece, but the time invested over the years in getting to that point. If someone has crafted their art for 30 years, then the customer should pay for that 30 years put into their art. I thought that was a pretty good point, and something people should think about.

You’re not just paying for that singular art piece, but the hours of improvement that the artist has devoted into their art.
