Twilight was one of the first non-unicorns to be taken into Princess Celestias studies.
From an early age Twilight loved going outside of Canterlot to search for strange plants and herbs. It was when a certain other pony preformed an amazing stunt that Twilight accidentally mixed two plants together while making a paste. What she created was found to be a new cure after she made her sick mother taste her “soup”.
The miraculous remedy caught fire and the attention of news ponies, and thus the princess.
Twilight got her qutiemark that day, and has been studying ever since. She loves going out into the field and trying things by hoof so she always has antidotes in her saddle bags for every plant she knows; and, of course, she has the help of another magical non-unicorn friend she made when she was sent to ponyville in a vain attempt to get her to stop mixing potentially deadly things together.
She has a long journey ahead of her with all her new friends, but she probably wont be able to imagine how difficult it will be to get used to the ability to fly and a whole new slew of magical abilities when she becomes a princess herself.
The opening scene with the street merchant was completely unscripted. Robin Williams was brought into the sound stage and was asked to stand behind a table that had several objects on it and a bed sheet covering them all. The animators asked him to lift the sheet, and without looking take an object from the table and describe it in character. Much of the material in that recording session was not appropriate for a Disney film.

Kind of on the fence with this one. I read the article and it appears that they actually do care about the child, but are scared for her because their families and the town they live in are racist as fuck. They also both acknowledged that they may not really have the cultural competency needed to raise the baby, as they really didn’t have much contact with Black people until much later on in their lives.
So, it’s not so much that they are like EW MY BABY IS BLACK AND I WANT TO SUE THE FUCK OUT OF THIS SPERM BANK, it’s more so I SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR A WHITE DONOR, AND WHILE I DO LOVE MY CHILD AND BONDED WITH HER IMMEDIATELY, THE SPERM BANK STILL WAS NEGLIGENT, AND NOW I AM SCARED BECAUSE I CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL MEANS TO PROPERLY CARE FOR MY CHILD
