- pointed out acne - treated you like a little slave (you get them EVERYTHING) - made fun of people who you idolize - made you feel like an outcast - ever called you a mistake or worthless - forced you to go to a place where you weren’t comfortable - made jokes about your weight - made you cry - made you break down - made you feel like you were all alone If so I’m going to send each and everyone of you a message!
I don’t normally comment on political stuff, but this whole “Reblog to protect our Copyright laws” thing sounds… Incredibly fishy.
Like, I don’t even need to do any research to know this simple fact: Our copyright laws are the way they are because companies like Disney, Universal, basically any company that makes a creative medium, has poured MILLIONS OF DOLLARS into making sure the Copyright laws benefit them, the creators, as much as possible for as long as possible.
So you’re telling me, that Congress is going to introduce a NEW law, that retroactively changes all previous Copyright laws, makes it easier for the common person to use Mickey Mouse for commercial profit without Disney’s approval, and will easily take away everyone and anyone’s characters or properties that they made if they haven’t done anything with them recently, can’t provide a “Proof of creation” evidence/date, and that you didn’t go down to your copyright office to file an official copyright notice for?
…No, no somehow I don’t think that’s going to happen. Even if it’s a possible bill being contemplated on the table, it’s a bill that corporations that even remotely and minutely care about their intellectual properties even in the slightest, tiniest bit, will fight to get rid of pretty much right away.
And that’s more power than any single individual reblog would ever have. So yeah, I’m not convinced that some “Mythical monster bill” is coming to take away our copyrights or some nonsense like that.
When I was five, and romance didn’t exist, I was a boy, and I was friends with a girl, and it didn’t matter, because why would it? We did everything together a normal couple of friends would do together, until we grew a little more and went on to different schools and didn’t see each other anymore.
So then I was eight. I was still a boy, and I was friends with a different girl now. She was confident and clever and bold, and we played games together during the lunch hour and went to each others houses after school.
“You fancy her,” the other children would say. I’d frown, say of course I didn’t, and why would I? We were friends, and that’s all. So we ignored the comments and carried on as we were, until her mother wouldn’t let me go to her birthday parties, because I’d be the only boy, and that would be “inappropriate”.
We didn’t stay in touch after school. I cried, when she didn’t respond to my letters - because I didn’t understand. Years of friendship: did it mean nothing to her? And then I’d remember her mother, and I’d realise what the problem was. I was a boy, and she was a girl. That was all there was to it.
So then I was twelve, I was friends with boys because I was a boy, and I only wanted someone to spend time with at lunch. But according to them, every girl I spoke to was a friend-with-benefits, and eventually I drifted away from them because I wasn’t interested in talking about sports and sex and risk-taking like they seemed to be. Instead, I talked to girls.
So then I was fifteen, and my friendship group was entirely female. I got called gay, a lad, a player, and all sorts of other things by almost everyone: boys and girls alike - but I ignored them. I liked being friends with girls, so what was the problem? Live and let live, I thought.
So one day I invited a friend over to the fair in town with me, and she came, and we enjoyed the day together without any hassle at all. Going back to school, however, changed that.
“Did you hear they fucked behind the public toilets,” people were saying. “They went on a date together.”
I said that wasn’t true - I didn’t have feelings for her that way.
“But you obviously fancy her,” they replied.
“No,” I told them, truthfully. “I don’t.”
Shortly afterwards, the girls I was friends with all organised a party, which I wasn’t invited to.
“It’s a sleepover,” they said. “Girl stuff.”
“Oh,” I said. “Okay. Girl stuff.”
They used that expression a lot over the next few years. Trips to the cinema - going out together… And eventually I realised that I was an outsider. They didn’t tell me things anymore. I wasn’t let in on their secrets, and if I ever asked, I’d be told I wouldn’t understand - and it was inappropriate I should ask.
So I stopped asking, and my friends drifted further and further away. I never understood why I was an outsider, until I saw a picture of them at the prom I didn’t bother going to, because I knew I would have no one to go with. There were my friends in the pretty dresses I’d helped them choose, with a guy in the centre of the picture, in a smart suit and slicked back hair. That would have been me, if I’d gone. And it always will be.
And then I realised why I could never be as close with them as they are with each other. I’m a guy. And they are girls. It’s as simple as that. Guys never understood me being friends with girls, but that was fine, because the girls were okay with it. But on the day the girls stopped seeing me as just a person they could be friends with, everything changed.
And so here I am. I’m eighteen. I am not gay, actually: nor am I romantically interested in any of my friends. What I do know is, that we’re about to go on a group holiday together, and I’ve been told not to even come into the corridor outside their room whilst they’re getting changed, in case the door swings open and I “see something I shouldn’t” - as if I’d actually care, or be the kind of guy who watched for that sort of thing. And I’ve realised it doesn’t matter how nice I am, no girl is ever going to see me as an equal. I will always be a guy, to them. And they will always be a girl.
And guys and girls can never be “just friends”, right? There always has to be something more. Whether I want it or not, there always has to be that potential.
“Going on holiday with three ladies are you?” the ticket seller asked me. “Fair enough…”
And I said nothing, because I was sick of saying “not in that way”. I was tired of telling people that I wasn’t interested in the girls I was friends with. I was bored of trying to be seen as just a friend in their eyes, too. And if even they couldn’t see me as an equal, how could anyone else ever believe me, when I told them boys and girls could just be friends?
So don’t tell them my gender doesn’t isolate me. Because it does. And don’t complain to me about being in the friend zone. Because I’ve been fighting to get there all my life.
this was really powerful stuff
Not if they are even smaller, like bebies who get killed in an accident or in the war... we dont know the full ethics of gem homeworld- or if that is a way to give another oportunity to the kids
About twice a month I get a message along the lines of “you inspire me” and that makes me kind of uncomfortable. I am a terrible influence and people should not be following my example.
Maybe you just happen to have a talent to influence people, who knows?
THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING
WHAT LITTLE PURITY REMAINS IN THIS WORLD MUST NOT BE TAINTED BY MY CYNICISM AND HEDONISTIC ATTITUDE
The world is a shitty place. If it is to get better, the new generation needs cynicism and attitude.
My whole family owns/operates/works in Chinese restaurants so lemme tell you:
-We chop all our vegetables FRESH
-We butcher our own chicken from whole chickens (we strip the breasts/tenders from the torso; we debone the thigh meat)
-We use the bones to make chicken stock for our soups
-We roast our own pork/ribs in an in-house smoker
-We peel and devein all of our shrimp BY HAND (this is what i did as a kid)
-We make our own dumplings/wontons/egg roll/spring rolls/breaded shrimp BY HAND (none of these are frozen)
-We used to make our own dumpling dough from scratch, but it was a lot of work and we switched to premade but many other places still do this
-All sauces and marinates are made by hand (no premade/store bought)
-All gravy is made by hand from scratch
-All soups are made from scratch
-Egg Foo Young takes FOREVER TO MAKE (there are like 7 different steps and you can only make one order at a time)
-An average take out restaurant has 3-6 employees (oftentimes family)
-Most employees work 6 days a week/60-70 hours a week
-Many employees live with their employers, sometimes very far away from their families (ie a father sending money back to his wife and kids in China)
-Owners (such as my parents) usually work 7 days a week, 364 days a year (we close on thanksgiving)
-Oftentimes kids will be helping out/hanging around bc they can’t afford childcare (I’ve been cashiering since i was 10)
SO WITH ALL THIS IN MIND, it’s really hurtful when someone complains about our prices. Averaging $5-$10/person (which is FAST FOOD LEVEL PRICES), the food you get has fresh vegetables, fresh meat, no weird preservatives—all cooked to order.
“HOW MUCH did you say this cost??? WHEEEEW!”
“You’re taking all my money!”
“(Asks for extra thing) Why does that cost extra?”
“So what do i get for free for spending $20?”
“How’s your pork made? It ain’t dog meat, is it?”
—all hurtful things I’ve personally heard and had to grin and bear
For some reason, it seems people don’t respect Chinese restaurants. You would never treat a Western-owned restaurant like this. Even places like PF Chang and Panda Express (who DO NOT use fresh ingredients) can overcharge out the wazoo but no one complains because they’re oftentimes being served by Western faces.
It really hurts for people to act like my family’s hard work isn’t worth anything to them.
Treat your locally owned business with respect. Treat your Chinese restaurants with respect. Really think about the food you’re getting and all the work that goes into it. Think of all the hard working people behind bringing you this meal you’re about to enjoy, a meal you didn’t have to prepare (this goes for fast food too).
Above all else, TREAT OTHER HUMAN BEINGS WITH BASIC DIGNITY.
^^^ all of this. Read it.
As a chef, Asian food is very complex and intriguing. Please respect the craft!
Real funny how you bronies antagonize the shit out of the SU fandom for only looking after it’s own fans vulnerable to your fandom’s bullshit. Yeah. SU fandom’s recent behavior is WAAY worse than bronies making pony porn of a disabled fan who got a cameo in the show to spite him and his family who asked those assholes not to. Yeah no. Go fuck yourselves bronies. You don’t get to put the spotlight on us considering the huge amount of bullshit you’ve all done over the years, longer than SU fans.
sometime I just think about how easy it would be to market superheroes toward little girls and I am filled with rage
like do these people not realize how fucking easy this shit would be
there’s the dazzler she’s like a popstar and a superhero do you know how many 4-12 year old girls would dig that shit
there’s the wasp and her superpowers are seriously like zapping jerks, flying, and being cuter than everybody else. also she’s a famous fashion designer. and she’s better than you. (like she shrinks and stuff too but mainly her power is being better than you)
she-hulk is like this nerdy chick with the power to get bigger and greener and be spontaneously tougher than everybody in the vicinity like I don’t even know a little girl who wouldn’t slit someone’s throat for the ability to be stronger than all the boys when they pissed her off
little girl likes magic? scarlet witch
little girl likes science? invisible woman
little girl likes spies? black widow
little girl likes aliens? karolina dean
little girl likes bionic arms? misty knight
little girl likes flying horses? wow. guess who has one of those? valkyrie. valkyrie does.
My point is that’s it’s so fucking easy so chop-chop, Marvel, get on it. Seriously, I went ten years of my life thinking superheroes were boys. That’s ten years of you not profiting off of my inability to refrain from buying even the crappiest merchandise you offer if it has a character I love on it. Little girls are an enormous market; they will buy all your shit if you just suggest to them that maybe they’d like to.
or you could just keep on not profiting when you could be making money selling literally any object that has enough space to plaster a female superhero’s face on it. that’s cool too.
TOO TRUE
They know they could market to girls. They don’t want to.
Because of the way gender has been constructed for us and marketed to us by corporations, boys are afraid to like things that girls also like. So in gaining girls, they would lose some boys, and they don’t want that.
I am Silver Tongue, I am an artist. I have many characters and you can check out my art in the art tag. I occasionally practice witchcraft though I don't do anything too complicated. I am girl 2 and don't know what else to put here.
