A trip down sensory lane.
Filmmakers take note- This five second scene not only fully describes a characters backstory, but the entire reason he acts the way he acts through the film, taking him from a villain to a sympathetic character and justifying a total reversal of his actions in the present. In five seconds, this movie does for the development of a character more than most movies do in two hours. This is why you should be studying Disney and Pixar along with Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick, and ignoring professors and elitist students who deride them as “kids stuff.”
wasn’t there a theory that Anton’s childhood cottage is the cottage Remy learned his craft from eavesdropping inside before travelling to Paris, and the recipe he’s tasting really is his mother’s ratatouille?
This is why you should be studying Classic Disney and Pixar along with Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick, and ignoring professors and elitist students who deride them as “kids stuff.”
Fixed.
Seriously, Disney’s newest stuff (with very few exceptions) is sensationalistic populist trash in terms of storytelling. Ignore it.
I wouldn’t limit it to classic Disney, either. There are a lot of undervalued studios out there.
Most of all you NEED to study all of Studio Ghibli’s works as well as those of Mamoru Hosada and Satoshi Kon. Ghibli excels in details, storytelling and well-written characters. Most of there protagonists are women and there is a strong sense of grey morality, that not everything is black and white, good and evil (seen in Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away the most). Their movies about a simple girl’s struggle with finding herself and her talent (Whisper of the Heart) is equally as compelling as a movie about magic, a talking fire demon and a fantastical castle (Howl’s Moving Castle). They don’t use or need gimmicks, broad humor or musical numbers. Their movies are most definitely of a higher caliber than Disneys’ has ever been. If you are studying animation and film-making the best thing you can do is to watch animation that is NOT Disney and Pixar. Not that they are bad but they have never been the best out there. There is beautiful animation being done ALL over the world. And make sure you watch them in their original language with subtitles, it’s the best way to get the true story. I also think Laika located in Oregon (Coraline, Paranorman, Box Trolls) needs more spotlight. Their attention to detail is exquisite. Dreamworks is also getting a lot better. How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2 each had more plot and heart than Frozen and Tangled EVER did. And lastly, the best thing you can do is to ALWAYS research the lives of those you are not. If you are white, learn ALL you can about people of color. If you are straight and cis then do that about the LGBTAIQ community. If you are male then do that about women. AND PUT THAT IN YOUR ART. ALWAYS. No one wants to see white people anymore. No one wants to seen men anymore. There are billions of people in the world that need representation. And it starts with you.
Alexaetc, cutting through my tiptoeing to get straight to the point.
i wish i was a cat
cats dont care how they look or what anyone thinks of them
Cats are lazy assholes who do everything to annoy you an I love them.
I am a 15 year veteran in the creative end of advertising. I have won over 50 major awards for my work, and I’ve worked for some of the largest and most well-known companies in the world. I mention this not to toot my own horn, but to tell you the story of how I was contacted by a recruiter on behalf of a client. Since they are located on the other side of the country from me, we started with a Skype meeting that went well and they told me they would contact me in the next week about an in-person interview.
One week later, I get an email asking me if I would work on a project for them to see how we work together before committing to hiring. That’s quite reasonable and a normal practice, so I agreed.
I sent them my estimate for the project that they loosely described as a 1-page mini-site.
Another week later I get a brief in my email with files attached, asking for a completed design of the mini-site, and they gave me access to their network with resources for the job. I write them back, explaining that they need to sign my estimate before we begin, and I’ve updated it to say that I need 1 week to concept 2-3 ideas, get feedback and then a few more days to complete the final design.
5 days later, I receive a response:
Client: We are not offering to pay you for this; we just want to see how you work. This project shouldn’t take you more than 4 hours to complete.
Despite my better judgment, and because they are offering a very high wage, I begrudgingly sit down to commit an act of robbery against myself.
I decide to show them 4 hours of my normal process, which is to pencil sketch a few ideas out, and roughly slap the best concept together in Photoshop. I send them a short write-up of the ideas and the files and ask when we will have our in-person interview.
2 weeks later, I hear back from the recruiter:
Recruiter: They’ve decided not to hire you because you didn’t follow the style guide.
They never sent a style guide, and what did they expect in 4 hours?
I know someone who works in the company, who has confirmed that they handed my idea off to their designers and are currently building my concept exactly. When they launch it, I’ll send them my bill and a nice introductory letter from my lawyer.
I don’t even know
I traveled into the bowels of my personal blog and found this.
It’s back
It’s baaaaack yes!!!
Damn………….
That is a lot of notesAll I end up hearing is this
ARE YOU TELLING ME
THAT WE WERE PLAGUED
BY THAT FREAKING POST
FOR WEEKS
WHEN WE
COULD’VE
HAD
THIS????
#it’s like the ios7 update for a post
IT’S TRANSPERNABRT
I like this version a lot better
that’s for people to blacklist if they dont want to see my personal posts
OH… well fuck them, then.
dude
some people don’t want personal posts on their dash
they’re fucking allowed to have their dash be the way they want it
really? too much to just scroll on past something that you don’t want to read? it needs to be completely erased?
I see posts I don’t care to see every day, I just scroll on past them, and no one has to do anything. Are personal posts really that offensi.. oh right… I forgot…
This is Tumblr, everything’s offensive.
its not that it’s offensive it’s not even that i follow alot of blogs somewhere around 109 and content gets clustered on my dashboard i prefer not to see peoples personal posts cause its not my business and without xkit i would usually scroll past it but with xkit i blacklist it and i dont have to even look at it so its not about something being offensive i just dont want to see it clustering up my dashboard.
It’s not offensive at all, actually.
That’s the whole point of tags on tumblr, really. To refine content to what you want to see, what you don’t want to see, what you’re looking for, and what you’re not looking for.Saying “just scroll past them” is really inefficient. lmao it’s not about being offended.
That’s like saying people shouldn’t refine their google searches because searching “food” brings up tons of unwanted results, whereas something more refined like “macaroni and cheese recipes” will get you to what you’re looking for and will help you avoid all the unnecessary content you don’t want to see. They are literally designed to save youfrom having to “just scroll past it”.
ye ^^^ what josey and miss shadow said ouo/
People have the right to have their dash the way they want it. It’s their dash. Who are we to judge them?
and stop viewing feminists as man haters!
or… or.. or.. you could aim your next graphic at man-hating feminists and tell them to SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Most men are scared to death of all women because of the man-haters, it’s not like we can pin a red ‘H’ on the feminists that hate men to tell them apart. We need help!
Or, you know.
People could not jump to conclusions when interacting with strangers.
Intelligent until proven otherwise, after all…
with the direction society is going… intelligence really isn’t in our future.
I hate Man-hating feminists but this post has nothing to do with man-hating at all! In fact, non of these even say men it just says nobody should harass women..
like..
1st picture: Don’t catcall women and make uncomfortable jokes towards them
2nd picture: Don’t call a woman bossy when they are acting exactly like their male coworkers
3rd picture: Don’t call a woman pet names ( UNLESS they are okay with it. )
4th picture: Don’t assume that a woman is on their period just because they are angry.
5th picture: Don’t tell a woman that they are not ladylike just because they make crude jokes.
6th picture: Don’t call a woman ‘cute’ when they are angry because it’s irritating and they want to be taken seriously. ( EVERYONE does. so does a woman and you should respect that. )
7th picture: Don’t use the term ‘friendzone’ because women have the right to deny you if they want.
8th picture: Don’t invalid a woman’s experiences.
9th picture: When a woman says they are in a relationship, leave them alone and don’t flirt with them. Respect the fact that they are committed to someone/some other people.
Last picture: Don’t ignore bad comments your friends make towards women because just because they are your friends that doesn’t mean you should allow them to make those comments.
This isn’t about man-hating feminists, this is about treating women properly. I hate man-hating feminists as well but please understand the post before you jump the gun.
