in cats and dogs, the cat villain was owned by a very rich very old guy who was more or less comotose. the cats essentially played weekend at bernies with his debatably dead body to do their evil schemes
Just wanted to chime in with some other stuff before people start to boycott/pirate the movie, or drop bad reviews:
An interview with Max Schneider, an animator on the film, confirmed that the redesign lasted 5 months, and there was no crunch time.
Also MPC was contracted by Paramount to work on the movie. Paramount has nothing to do with MPC’s decisions, so MPC closing down their Vancouver studio was not on Paramount’s part.
The reason MPC Vancouver closed down was due to Canadiantaxlaws that was costing the company financially. The Sonic movie was NOT the cause of this; most likely, news sites are including it in the title in order to get clicks.
The Reddit post has been deleted along with the user. It could mean that either they wanted to avoid trouble, or it could’ve been false.
And finally, MPC is just one of the studios involved with the movie. Marza and Blur were also involved in Sonic’s animation, as well as hundreds of other people. Movies are a collaborative effort: by boycotting the movie, these other studios will be hurt, and likely Paramount will pin the movie’s failure on everyone else and claim the execs were right.
I hope people don’t boycott or pirate the movie because of MPC’s decision. It’s horrible that this happened just before the holidays too, and an offer for MPC positions in locations is nice, but still doesn’t cover moving costs. But I hope people realize that there are others involved in the process of making a movie that could be hurt by boycotting.

Better late than never huh. I had to pause at this scene. I know that exact feeling I’m portraying here and it was an intense moment. The group’s reaction was so intense and good tho, I just had to come back to it and draw it, even if it took me very long.

in rio there’s a group of people running an exotic bird smuggling operation, and they have a parrot that’s also just on board with the concept of smuggling birds. he has a whole song about it and acts like a jail warden for the other birds… like, what a coincidence that this random bird they keep happens to be evil and actively, personally interested in how well the smuggling operation is functioning, when as far as they know it’s just a bird. in one scene it chloroforms a man
call me a monster but uhhhh i don’t think someone should lose their livelihood or deserve to not get any donations that would prevent them from starving/being evicted because they like a Bad Ship or something
call me a freak but i think deliberately trying to sabotage donation posts because someone drew art of a ship you dislike when they were 16 is far more callous than drawing that art in the first place
this site legit has people who think they should be in charge of running systems of accountability and community justice and then you look at what they do in practice and its “you drew fucked up webcomic fanart 10 years ago, the only appropriate punishment for this is for you to starve and be deprived of life-saving community resources and sabotaged any time you need help” like cool i guess since we have completely abandoned the concept of what constitutes “proportionate retribution” then the punishment for punching someone or robbing a house is the fucking breaking wheel or some shit.

Fun fact: Harley was originally a one-off character/pseudo-walk on role that Paul Dini made for his friend Arleen Sorkin (Harley’s original VA). Harley is loosely based on Arleen, including her being Jewish. So this isn’t something that was added later by another writer, but rather an aspect of her that was part of her character since day one.
Not that it would make her any less Jewish if it was added later, of course, but I think it’s important to know how it was always part of her character, especially since a lot of folks don’t seem to realize she’s Jewish at all, let alone that she was from inception.
