One of the best things about Tumblr, imo, is sometimes you can scroll through the awful content… But you don’t then get it recommended to you.
On tiktok, you see some godawful opinion and you want a further look at what exact kind of crazy they are? Are the being ironic? Is this satire? Oh, no, they actually do think that… Ex. Women should belong to their husbands. Welp, you’re now gonna have tradwife / terf / alt-right / trumpie content on your fyp for weeks because you scrolled that account for a few minutes. You keep pressing ‘not interested’ but tiktok believes you’re a republican now.
Here, you see something crazy - let’s say, uh, Human Pet Guy (rip, example would be before he deactivated obviously).
You see a post of his and you’re like “Woah, wtf, is this satire or is he just like this?” You go to his blog to check and Tumblr does not assume looking at human pet guy’s blog = you want a human pet and does not start bombarding you with human pet content. When you are done trying to understand how someone can think like that you can return to the safety of your dash, which remains unchanged.

Can’t stop thinking about muntjac deer. See the thing with muntjacs is that they have these large scent glands below the eyes and on the forehead, and they use them to mark territory. Many types of deer have the glands in front of the eyes (pre-orbital) but muntjac are unique in having forehead glands (frontal). Here’s the video I saw. There’s something really unsettling about the idea of an animal being able to like. Open it’s face. Idk I think it’s madly creepy but it’s like a perfectly natural thing for the animal to do. It just looks scary.

Honestly the fact that Crunchyroll intentionally removed all closed captioning options for their tv app should be fucking criminal. You can only get subtitles if you watch the subbed Japanese version. If you watch dubbed anime and you’re Deaf or HOH, Crunchyroll intentionally removed all closed captioning support. There is no work around.
I’m not kidding when I say that this should be fucking illegal.
So, I did a bit of research, and from what I can tell this is actually illegal.
Crunchyroll is a streaming service, and closed captions for all video content have been upheld as a requirement of the ADA. The courts determined this back in 2012 with Netflix, when they got sued by NAD and as a result had to add closed captioning for all their programs.
It looks like if people would like to file a complaint about this lack of accessibility, they can do so with the FCC here:
There’s an option for “Lack of closed captioning over the internet”, so you would want to select that and then explain the issue.

Since Crunchyroll is headquartered in the U.S., they can’t even argue that they’re abiding by the laws of a foreign country (They’d have to abide by U.S. law while operating here, anyway, but they can’t even pretend that’s a defense)
