This is the first time I’ve ever seen a public utility ruefully praise someone for
property damage….
I mean, you couldn’t plan it if you tried, so it’s a genuine
accident. And also a freaky one - like throwing a coin and it landing on
its side.
craighead electric recognizes game.
What’s crazy is this might not be the weirdest accidental shot I have seen.
When you take up Archery, you shake Murphy by the hand.
Your sense of what is or is not Probable is opened like a wrecking ball to the Third Eye.
I have seen and managed a “robinhood” more than once. I’ve seen it happen like five times.
It’s when you split your arrow by hitting the very end of it, dead on, with ANOTHER ARROW. Less than a square centimeter of target there. Just by total freak chance.Nearly impossible to do by trying but it HAPPENS all the time.
“One in a million chances crop up nine times out of ten”- Guards! Guards!, Sir Terry Pratchett
#take an archery course and a stats course at the same time and you may Ascend into levels unknown
If nothing else, due to losing your last tenuous hold on sanity because stats, and taking your newfound archery knowledge to live in the woods free of any society that has discovered the discipline of Statistics.
The wild thing about the robinhooding is that the Mythbusters tried - in at least two separate episodes! - to create the perfect circumstances for a robinhooded arrow. They mechanised it, they got their equipment set up perfectly, they had the perfect arrows… and they just couldn’t do it.
Meanwhile, at my first archery competition, I was watching the top level archers while my group was having a break, and i got to see first hand a robinhooded arrow happen. So every time i watch those episodes and watch the Mythbusters conclude that it’s impossible, I’m tearing my hair out because i have literally watched it happen.
OK now I’m curious- Typically when people start expiriencing “This isn’t how statistics works” type-phenomena, it’s because we misunderstood how likely the event was in the first place and the factors that contribute to it.
This would mean doing something like having everyone at an archery contest count how many shots they take that day and then comparing the total to the number of unusual shots- Perhaps robinhooding is not a one-in-a-million shot but it IS a one-in-one-thousand shot.
I don’t know anything about archery but I am fond of math, so I thought i’d take a shot at this (ba dum tsh) This is all extremely back of the napkin, so I apologize for any errors.
So according to this, a Western round involves shooting two sets of four dozen arrows, so 96 arrows. According to this, within the US alone 23.8 million adults practice archery and 20% of those do so competitively, so 4,760,000 people in the US alone shooting competitively. There are 50 competitions scheduled in the US for 2021 according to this, which we can assume is low due to the current State Of Affairs, but it doesn’t make sense to assume that every person competes in 50 competitions a year.
If we say people who shoot competitively compete in an average of two competitions a year, that’s 4,760,000 people competing in 2 competitions a year shooting 96 arrows competitively at each competition, or 913,920,000 arrows shot competitively in a year. Even assuming robin hood-ing is a one in a million shot, we’d expect 913 robin hood shots in competition per year, or about 18 robin hood shots per competition.
Even if we assume more conservatively that only half of people who shoot competitively compete in a given year and those who compete only participate in one competition on average a year, and we then assume on top of that only the top 10% of archers who shoot competitively are able to make a robin hood shot a one-in-a-million shot, that’s still 22,848,000 arrows shot by archers good enough to make a robin hood shot a one-in a million shot yearly, and with those one in a million odds, we’d expect 22 robin hood shots in competition per year, or at slightly less than half of the competitions. Even if it’s one in ten million, we’d still expect about 2 robin hood shots in competition yearly.
So the real question isn’t ‘if a robin hood arrow is a one in a million chance, how did you see one at an archery competition?’ it’s ‘if a robin hood arrow is only a one in a million chance and not rarer, how would we not see more of them at archery competitions?’
tl;dr extremely uncommon outcomes can happen with unintuitive frequency if the thing is done many many times by many people.
AW YEAH, THIS IS MY SHIT.
I’ve robinhooded an arrow twice, and my dad has done it about six times. The archery store we go to has a whole display of dozens of robinhooded arrows on the wall JUST from people who have done it while in the shop testing out new equipment/adjustments to their equipment. It’s honestly not all that uncommon. My dad actually actively tries to avoid it now because his arrows are expensive and he’s annoyed at accidentally destroying them.
In related news: my sister can split a bullet on the head of an axe, so possibly it’s just a family trait to be scary accurate.
Snails loves apples, but scary and evil AppleJack on the farm behind don’t likes snails. =( This fact makes “little” snail really sad but friendly and kind pony like Fluttershy always ready to help =3
I hope AppleJack will never know about it, other wise Flutty can get in a black list with other little creatures^^

My shroomish recently evolved during a battle and I'm a bit lost on how to care for her as a breloom. Are there any key differences to look out for and care that used to apply for her that doesn't now? She still is getting used to her new size and tail I've noticed, and I make sure to not get upset if she knocks things over.
Care should remain the same, if they were healthy enough to evolve without issue, then you’re already giving them what they need. Unhealthy Pokemon just don’t evolve without a lot of force. It’ll have an increase in food, it should roughly double to triple in quantity depending on how much energy your Pokemon has to output. If it’s a battler, triple, if it is a house Pokemon, just double should be fine, they do forage while out on walks when peckish, so they’ll kind of do a little self care if needed.
They will have a new abundance of energy in short bursts. They do get the zoomies, then konk out in a shady cool patch, usually under shrubs or near bodies of water where it’s damp and usually full of rotting foliage and debris. Get them a target of some kind if you can’t battle them, like a practice dummy. They will need to release energy somehow if not via natural methods, or you’ll end up with them destroying things out of frustration. They don’t like to be cooped up much either, you may have to increase their walks.
It will in time get use to its new size and shape, they do go through quite a drastic change, but all Pokemon need time to adjust to evolutionary changes, this is not unusual and you shouldn’t be too worried. Best thing you can do is protect your valuables, box them temporarily while she gets use to the tail, it usually takes a week or two to get the back of it, and even then accidents happen. When she’s more in control perhaps have a ‘calm zone’ with all your most precious things in, to go to when you or your Pokemon are looking for some peace and quiet. They do nap a lot so I find having a humidity zone for them is great for indoors. Just get a water tight tray that’s big enough for your new breloom to sleep comfortably in, line it with 2cm of shingle for drainage, another 2cm of soil, and then just pad moss in and mist it loads. It knits together like a bed and they feel very at home on this. A lot of grass types enjoy a moss tray, so keep it in mind for winter. They won’t like the cold and will need some place cosy indoors for them.
.5% of you will be happy to know I’m making a conscious effort to write
more, and to write in actual story form. Planning to make myself
illustrate each written thing before I share it cuz I need practice in
both mediums!
In this one, you eavesdrop on Cornelius

Eric’s curse, and accidentally see a corner of Cornelius’ dirty laundry.
Important for those who need to pay their hospital bills.
I’m not saying this isn’t worth trying because like… anything is worth trying but when I was sent a $22k bill for my gallbladder removal when my insurance fucked up, it was fully itemized from the get go. There was literally no shame in charging me $220 for ten tablets of acetaminophen or anything like that. Most hospital bills come in already itemized.
The idea that you can shame them into feeling bad for their prices or that they’re being kept secret is giving bad advice and I do wonder if people spreading it have ever actually had to deal with truly expensive medical procedures that aren’t covered by insurance.
Like the most an itemized bill is gonna do for you is be there so you can check if you are being charged for things you straight up did not receive (which is quite possible).
Better advice is looking up the specific hospital’s patient advocacy line and seeing if you can apply for financial assistance, how their interest free payment plan, or look into the Charity Care offerings of the hospital, if it’s public and not private. If you are under a certain wage bracket, you may be eligible for the entirety of your bill being covered or receiving a discount.
I know this is a lot less #PettyRevenge or whatever, less sticking it to the man than “Haha, I wanna see my BILL PLEASE! NO SCAMMING THIS TIME!” or whatever but like… these are more realistic than your hospital suddenly being shy about telling you all the dumb shit they are shamelessly overcharging you for.
I lucked out with my $22k bill and it ended up just being a failure to send paperwork about my insurance coverage and I basically considered suicide foree an entire week for no reason but I WISH people had given me REALISTIC advice for my problems instead of “Uwu, ask for an itemized bill.”
Listen y’all… hospitals aren’t ashamed for charging you $1k per second of your nurse counting back from five or whatever.
It’s ALWAYS worth trying, though it will often involve further questioning and not just “itemized bill please” (ie asking why some individual item is X and why another thing is Y price, you have to actually challenge the bill) but I think this is a lot of false hope when most people actually working to help people with medical debt will not give you this advice. OP of this tweet is a 22 year old who struggled to answer any basic questions from peopel replying to her tweets.
And the rest are telling people to just not pay it because “credit scores are fake.”
Please… please god just do more research into how to manage medical bills. Don’t listen to everything you see on twitter. This is one small step that might help a little bit, MAYBE, but there are much better things to be spending your time on in terms of accessing help.
