Next up on the Lorule headcanon roster: the Oocca!

They were originally a strange-looking bird race from Twilight Princess, but aside from that one appearance they aren’t seen again throughout the LoZ canon games. As weird lookin’ as they were they were fascinating, and I’ve been asked several times before about them, so I ultimately decided they’d be one of the primary races of Lorule!

I went with the idea that they were more harpy-like in appearance than just… a chicken with a human-esque head. I wanted them cuter and more friendly looking, so here it is! :3  Also as a fun fact! The original concept art of the Oocca for TP had them be like, apes wearing bird-motif hoods and robes, so that’s where I got the idea that the Oocca headcanon-wise would also wear hoods. uwu

Anyway, have some Oocca headcanon lore!

-A peaceful race of bird-like people, the Oocca are openly friendly and welcoming to anyone who wanders into their domain. Given their lack of flight, sharp claws, or anything that could be used as a means of self-defense, the Oocca is also the most non-combative race. They see no point in wars, fighting, viewing the acts as cruel and barbaric, however they understand the need for protection, something they can’t adequately provide for themselves. As such, their alliance treaties come with the promise of receiving militant protection from friendly domains; a decent chunk of warriors from each race is stationed within the Oocca territory for this reason.

-Due to their general lack of combat prowess, the Oocca lend themselves to the alliance through their far-reaching influence in trade, commerce, and technological expertise. They are in charge of handling trade negotiations with neighboring kingdoms, and many Oocca generally lead lives of bankers and merchants throughout Lorule. If there’s an economy, it’s almost certain that an Oocca is within the ranks to make it run smoothly.

-In addition to their mercantile prowess, the Oocca are surprisingly advanced in terms of technology. Their technological advancement is what allows their city to hover in the sky, accessible only through flight or a launching pod from a “Sky Cannon”. Alongside lives as merchants and traders, Oocca also often pursue careers as technicians and scientists, aiding the rest of Lorule in developing new tech.

-Ooccoo, sometimes known as Miss O, is the sweet, gentle single mother of Junior.  She makes her peaceful living running a homely inn and selling knick-knacks in the small farm village Ravio was born in. She also doubles as the resident repair shop, using her skill in tinkering to keep the village’s tech and tools in tip-top shape. I’ve the idea that Ooccoo has a knack of taking in any stragglers that she may run across, which is the case for Ravio (an orphan) and an old, battle-worn Lynel (to be designed later!).

-Junior is Ooccoo’s outgoing young son. Ever so eager to make friends and lend a hand whenever he can, Junior helps his mother run her in and shop. He’s high on energy and sometimes talks a little too fast, but all he wants to do is make sure you feel welcomed when under their care. He often uses berry branches as hair ties so he can have a small snack anywhere he goes!

Free him!

When getting housing for a pet, please remember to get the homes of an adequate size. This is abuse

knights need at least a 5x5 enclosure in order to keep their stress levels manageable, and honestly that’s pushing it. 10x10 is a much more humane minimum, and you should allow them more if you can spare it, as knights enjoy “touring” around their enclosures and more space means a longer tour. if you don’t have the space a knight requires, consider adopting a bishop or a rook instead

I hate this because a chessboard is 8x8.

Chessboards are torture for knights!!

For those who are considering enrichments for their knights, here are some ideas you may consider if you:

  • Wish to add long roadtrips to your knight’s daily excercise
image
  • Need them to develop some muscle mass and increase their stamina
image
image
  • Want to introduce more knights to the herd
image
image
  • Or just feel like redecorating their standard size enclosure
