The Cabin in the Woods (2011) dir. Drew Goddard
It occurs to me that some people might not actually know where the now-memetic “evil is defeated” image comes from, so here you go.
This just makes me want the context more.
Its a commentary on the relationship between cheesy horror films and the audience. the audience is a bunch of elder gods who want to see horror movie shit. if the monsters fail in an unsatisfying way, the gods will destroy the world which is effectively if a horror film sucks people will stop giving a shit and it wont get sequels. The japanese horror ended in a way that would leave gods unsatisfied which meant the american branch (which was sending a bunch of people they forced into the sterotypical horror flick tropes) is the last hope of creating a thing satisfying enough for the gods to not destroy everything. also the head of the “make horror film scenarios to entertain gods” company is sigourney weaver
cabin in the woods is like… really really good
