problem, but the identification and remediation of known point sources

Hey I know I keep reblogging criticism of this post but like just one more to be super clear and keep all of it in one place–
1: This is a very outdated photo. This is from 2013, and you can no longer get otc insulin in any state, from any pharmacy. You need to talk to your doctor about the possibility of changing if you want to do this, so if you do at least hear them out on the risks.
2: The insulin in modern dosing pens is different from this kind of insulin. As the photo says, it requires dosage calculations and is not simple like the insulin in pens. It is easy to get wrong and a mistake can be deadly!
3: Since you can’t get this over the counter, the pharmacy will not be able to give it to you without a prescription authorizing the change from your doctor. I’m sure everyone here is a reasonably decent person, but just to be clear: Do NOT yell, harass, or otherwise make life difficult for the pharmacists and technicians based on an unverified photo on the internet thanks
4: not being able to afford your medications is a serious thing! please talk to your pharmacist or the technician about finding a way to make it more affordable via coupons or discount programs. trust me, they want to help! If you switch from a big name pharmacy like CVS or Walgreens or Walmart to a smaller grocery store or local pharmacy, they may be able to devote more time to helping you. (please note though that local pharmacies often cannot take goodrx or rxsaver, call ahead to check)

5: If you fall under the poverty line look for a patient assistance program/ free clinic. Most states have these, they ask you to apply by verifying that you do, indeed, fall under the poverty line by providing stuff like your last year’s tax return and payslips from your work. Through these programs a health care provider can contact Novo Nordisc/ Lily Evans (companies that produce insulin) and they can give you highly discounted or even free insulin. THESE PROGRAMS DO EXIST AND HELP A TON!
6: Amazon has cheap pen needles and strips for testing blood sugar
test strips (dont apply to all glucose testers so make sure it will work with yours)
7. If you MUST use this insulin (which i strongly recommend against- the two months I was on this insulin was hell but it kept me alive so i cant complain too much) the insulin acts very very differently. When taking the fast acting insulin, you have to take it 30-60 minutes before eating. When taking the long acting, split in half what you normally take with a regular long acting insulin like Lantus. Take each dose 12 hours apart. If you take your regular dose all at once you WILL crash in blood sugar and spike later.
8. Reach out to other Diabetics, especially on Facebook. There are a few groups dedicated to swapping/sending supplies. People with extra will often give what they can. These groups often get shut down because Facebook is full of narcs but seriously it can be a good resource.
