Never worry about fully fleshing out your characters and calling it a day, cause we as humans aren’t done learning either, what makes you think your character is done?
But backstories can’t change
Or can they?
The childhood your Character may have had? May not be the exact one, our childhood memories can get all mixed up.
Or perhaps they were fabricated by a villain, or a parent, or a creator of the character.
Or hell, put in callout salty terms,
If Simpsons can change how Homer and Marge met in different decades of Generations, 70s, 80s, 90s etc, and get away with it, you can change your Characters backstory if you wanna
What about designs pat like are we aloud to change their designs because I want to do that but not so much that they become different characters I just think they need a visual upgrade instead of just looking like what a elementary student thought was cool and edgy

Old school Pikachu was chunkier and almost hamster like in appearance, now he has more mouse and rat like features.
As your art style grows and changes
So do your characters
Worry less about fear of change, and just change it, if you don’t like it, change it back and try something else, it’s your art, your stories, and your character.
