The idea of dragons in modern times is so fun because imagine a hot summer day on your vacay and go to use the hotel pool and staff is like “valued guests we regret to inform you that the pool area is out of service at the moment, we apologize for the inconvenience”

And people like “wtf why” looking out their hotel room window and there’s this. This dragon just curled up in the pool chilling, literally, cooling itself down

Some of the staff are trying to gently shoo him away and the dragon does a soft little “rrrrrr” like a grumpy cat and a warning puff of smoke and they’re like “fuck it i don’t get paid nearly enough for this” and no ones using the pool today sorry!

I really hope this impacts the devices we’ll have access to in the US.

Every argument for embedded batteries is a facade for charging customers more for the most common phone repair. All other reasoning is dishonest.

Fuck yes please.

Even aside from the repairability, do you know how hard it is to make sure a device without a removable battery is actually off? And not just dark with all the sensors active?

I miss being able to yank the battery out if the entire phone was unresponsive, as opposed to waiting 20 minutes poking it in the hopes it will respond (when the usual manual options aren’t working)

I need you to FREAKING listen to me. Back when I lived with my parents my mom would watch Hallmark channel and there was this show called When Calls the Heart. It was supposed to be in like late Victorian era or Edwardian era……. I think? (they have early cars) And THIS is what the costumes look like……

Literally all you had to do to make it quasi-believable was fix their hair/facial hair and give them hats. Also fix the character’s neckline, she’s the only character in the show where they’re like “no she must be hot and have a V neck”

Ok sorry I had to get that out of my system.

I cannot overstate the importance of local school board elections.

We finally have a progressive supermajority in our district. Here are some things that are going on.

  1. Lunch and breakfast are free for all students, regardless of income. They ask students at wealthier schools that don’t federally qualify as an entire school for free lunch to apply for free lunch because it increases federal reimbursement, but they are simply not charging students for lunch or breakfast.
  2. They fired the big corp that was handling lunches (sodexa?) and brought it in house and the selections include vegetarian, kosher/halal, and often local and organic foods. The quality is good. They pay attention to nutrition. My picky kid can usually find something to eat.
  3. The schools are nut free. As the parent of a peanut-allergic kid, I’m grateful.
  4. We’re not banning books.
  5. There’s no shopping list for back to school because, get this, the district is providing supplies! They ask that kids bring a backpack. My kid’s cheeseburger backpack has held up mightily and is still in great shape, so we’re good.
  6. Trans kids are protected at the state level, but also at the local level.
  7. They’re doing an overhaul of special education with an eye to eliminating ABA. This is a sea change.
  8. Kids get a city bus pass, free.

I have so many feelings. One of my friends is on the school board, and she’s been part of this huge shift in priorities. I feel like good things are possible again. This is what free public education should mean.

The radicalized religious Republican right is showing up at school board meetings because we stopped going. Turns out auto pilot isn’t a thing in local democracy.

I suggest changing that to: “I am invoking my right to remain silent. I am invoking my right to an attorney.” Current phrasing leaves too much room for you to get lawyer dogged.
