Because treating people fairly often means treating them differently.
This is something that I teach my students during the first week of school and they understand it. Eight year olds can understand this and all it costs is a box of band-aids.
I have each students pretend they got hurt and need a band-aid. Children love band-aids. I ask the first one where they are hurt. If he says his finger, I put the band-aid on his finger. Then I ask the second one where they are hurt. No matter what that child says, I put the band-aid on their finger exactly like the first child. I keep doing that through the whole class. No matter where they say their pretend injury is, I do the same thing I did with the first one.
After they all have band-aids in the same spot, I ask if that actually helped any of them other than the first child. I say, “Well, I helped all of you the same! You all have one band-aid!” And they’ll try to get me to understand that they were hurt somewhere else. I act like I’m just now understanding it. Then I explain, “There might be moments this year where some of you get different things because you need them differently, just like you needed a band-aid in a different spot.”
If at any time any of my students ask why one student has a different assignment, or gets taken out of the class for a subject, or gets another teacher to come in and help them throughout the year, I remind my students of the band-aids they got at the start of the school year and they stop complaining. That’s why eight year olds can understand equity.
I remember reading somewhere once “we should be speaking of equity instead of equality” and that is a principle that applies here me thinks
“mickey i am fed up wit your bullshit devil magic”
These shorts really are the best thing to have happened to Mickey’s character in ages.
you say this without acknowledging this was about taking goofy to see ‘potato land’ which he assumed was an amusement park (which was really a welcome to idaho sign) and his lifelong dream, so they have to BUILD a potato themed amusement park before goofy woke up from a nap
there was an entire episode (season one, episode one) where mickey and donald were denied service at a takeout restaurant because mickey has no shirt and donald has no pants so to get food they have to combine outfits, leaving one of them naked in a bush
or that they had an episode addressing goofy being a dog, and entering him in a dog show pluto was supposed to be in because he injured pluto rendering him unable to enter
and that on the command ‘beg’ he says ‘please take me back, i can change, she meant nothing to me’
Not because he’s particularly outlandish, but because he doesn’t look the way he does in pictures. Sure, they don’t expect for him to always be jumping through the air with a civilian tucked under his arm, but somehow, when transitioning from the No. 1 Pro Hero to an objective medium, he becomes shockingly normal. The mixture of freckles and green hair and All Might jacket make him blend in with the crowd and appear surprisingly plain, despite the unsettlingly bright smile and height.
When people meet Deku, they’re surprised.
Not because they didn’t think he had his own interests outside of the hero business, but because he’s truly a fanboy at heart and they weren’t expecting that out of the hero who has it all. He’ll show up at a convention and ask to take photos with cosplayers, as if he isn’t the most cosplayed hero in the vicinity. He won’t be bothered by the camera in his face as he picks his way through merchandise and he’ll look hilariously calm when he asks the reporter if they have change for a twenty.
When people meet Deku, they’re surprised.
Not because he’s intimidating, but because he’s the complete opposite. He’s big and has a handshake that somehow reinforces that he’s used to shaking the hands of equally powerful people, but he’s clumsy and laughs at his own mistakes and gets flustered when a fan asks for an autograph. He’ll engage a fan in a conversation about Ingenium when he sees their t-shirt and he’ll begin to ramble about his friends and he’ll almost exchange numbers with them before realizing that it would be a breach of his personal security, but that doesn’t stop him from giving them his username on a forum site.
When people meet Deku, they’re surprised.
Not because he’s not what they expected, but because he’s everything they could have ever hoped for in a hero, while simultaneously surprising them with every step he takes.
When he goes to conventions people don’t even realize it’s him until he posts the pictures of his Twitter
odin is like “when thor was born the sun shone bright upon his beautiful face. i found loki on the sidewalk outside a taco bell”
Oðinn spake:
Bright the sun shone | at the time of Þor’s birth, And bathed his count'nance fair. Loki, wolf-father, | the trickster, the liar, I found on the cold pavement While returning in glory | from a grand hunt For a 3 AM quesadilla.
this is so funny because the blue areas aren’t really distinct so it just looks like somebody has posted a picture of all of australia with the caption “half of australia lives here”
