The beauty of National Parks are reminders of what the entire earth could look like if humans weren’t around .
Casual reminder that many landscapes in US national parks are the result of centuries of land management by indigenous people and the Parks system has interfered with indigenous management practices and led to some degredation of the ecosystems
Not so casual reminder that a great many of those parks were Indigenous homes. Not just managed, not just cared for.
Not so casual reminder that the oft quoted grandfather of the National Park System Theodore Roosevelt was an unabashed racist who took 86 million acres of Indigenous Tribal land to expand the National parks.
Not so casual reminder that conflating lack of human life to lack of human interference is hugely problematic and completely disregards the eugenics hidden within most ecofascist ideology.
When Shenandoah National Park was created, the NPS systematically destroyed all the structures of the people who had been living there. Their goal was to erase any evidence the land had been occupied.
Avatar AU where Aang stays in the iceberg and Katara is mistakenly believed to be the Avatar after she “earthbends” a rock by moving the ice inside it.
Instead of telling the truth and letting everyone down, she and Sokka pull on an elaborate charade and go on a journey to convince the world that the Avatar is back.
Sokka was initially against the idea, thinking it’s crazy, but he got onboard anyway because it’s his little sister and he can’t let her go out into the world alone and put a target on herself.
After they started, he got super into the idea and started crafting an elaborate backstory for her Airbending predecessor, and devising ways for her to fake-bend the other elements.

Bumi agrees to teach her because he is pretty sure she’s a reincarnation of him
Sokka: But… you’re still alive.
Bumi: So is the real Avatar. I think we can bend the rules of reincarnation a bit.
Zuko still gets a redemption arc and switches sides. Only after he joins Team Avatar does he learn that Katara is not, in fact, the avatar. By this point he’s already committed so screw it he’s teaching a waterbender how to fake-firebend now.
That’s very in-character because Aang never wanted to be the Avatar anyway.
Sokka after learning the real Avatar was 20 minutes from his home village the whole time:
katara ends up developing various methods to seemingly manipulate the elements. the aforementioned bending of water in rocks. but also bending the water in air to create pressure difference to make wind. bending water to separate the hydrogen and oxygen of some water molecules while rapidly changing the temperature in others to create fire. she still learns bloodbending.

We all love the “becoming the very thing you sought to destroy,” trope. but I have a growing fondness for “destroying the very thing you sought to become”
princess bubblegum is honestly one of most unique tv characters, apart from the fact that she’s a piece of gum who spends her free time committing unethical experiments on her subordinates, her storyline across all season is just like. her becoming less evil. not even like a full redemption arc, like she needed ten seasons to understand that being an authoritarian dictator is bad but like, she never actually stopped being a dictator yk. she just needed this much time to be like maybe I should commit less war crimes. maybe I should count to ten before defying god and creating life. and she has no tragic villain origin story, like they did kind of gave her that with her uncle and stuff betraying her but also, she’s always been kind of like this, like she’s always been prone to playing god with the concept of existence. if you think about it princess bubblegum could be a fucking batman villain
