“adults shouldn’t be in fandom” discourse is the funniest shit to me especially coming from 16-18 yr olds. you really think ur gonna stop liking things in the next 2 or 3 years? get real.

I mean, yeah, but I wish tumblr would stop acting like this is a Real Problem, and in the process ignoring the fact that teenagers don’t have any real social or structural power to keep adults out of their spaces or hobbies, while adults on the other hand have immense power to exclude young people and do so on a regular basis. go outside of places like tumblr (where demographics skew younger) for five minutes and this *should* become obvious. like do you know how often I’ve heard adults complain about the fact that there were kids at midnight premieres of the Harry Potter movies? and guess what, no theater would ever have an “under-18s-only” screening but there are PLENTY that have daily adults-only screenings of movies whose ratings in no way require it, solely because adults get pissy and entitled when asked to share space with youth. so yeah, teens who try to push adults out of fandoms are doing a shitty thing but like, context.
The problem here though is that minors regularly invade adult spaces and then complain that its not minor friendly. I cant tell you how many times ive seen minors go into an 18+ discord server and complain about whats happening. And with the AO3 discourse, the minors really need to learn the rule of “dont like; dont read”

i drafted this in a blind rage immediately upon waking up today and i may have misremembered some plot points of the Harry Potter series
squirrel girl is canonically more powerful than thanos
if anyone is wondering “how the fuck?”: this was a pretty complicated thing that marvel set up, where they evaluated each hero and villain’s capabilities based on who they defeated, how they defeated them, who they were defeated by, and so on.
except, as it turns out, squirrel girl has defeated a LOT of powerful villains. case in point, her very first appearance has her solo-defeating doctor doom, without the help of iron man (who was nearby). this was also one of the few occasions where doom was defeated and it WASN’T a doombot. this turned squirrel girl into kind of a meme once the story hit the internet for obvious reasons, even though this story was just a one-shot. so then marvel brings her back, and has her defeat three villains in one comic, INCLUDING THANOS. (they even had other characters confirm that it wasn’t a trick, it wasn’t a fake thanos, that was actually thanos and he lost to squirrel girl because she set squirrels on him.)
the result? squirrel girl always wins. if there is an argument about “who would win?”, and squirrel girl is one of the options, then she wins by default because she’s squirrel girl. and this means that squirrel girl has to be the most powerful character in marvel by raw stats, because she always wins. you genuinely can’t beat squirrel girl.
by the by: she’s coming to the mcu soon in the new warriors tv show. that should be entertaining.
