as an ex-catholic it’s very funny to see ‘catholic convert’ in people’s bios it’s akin to running out of a burning skyscraper and passing someone heading on up to the top floor

Tumblr needs more minigames like this. Way better than “previous tags”
Hello there tumblr user viewing the original version of this post, before you proselytize the virtues of catholicism to a stranger on the internet who very clearly wants nothing to do with the denomination, consider that for every word you type a teaspoon of nerve gas is released into your room.
If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.
Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.
Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.
Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.
This is legit good writing advice, especially the first bullet point! In playwriting class we did a bit where every bit of dialogue had to be an accusatory question and it was glorious.
The Bible makes a lot more sense when you realise they took out the part where the whole reason the Devil became a bad guy and tempted Eve with the apple was because Satan was traumatised as a child when God trained three evil apples to push the Devil’s parents off a cliff
I hate people who make villains have villain names and introduce them in a way that makes them the obvious villain.
Like:
Scientist: Ah, welcome protagonist. I am scientist and this is my assistant, Evil Von Orphanmaker. He used to work with your deceased parents before their super secret project went missing. Now he’s helping me test my super human formula.
