A prequel series that slowly but steadily stops making any sense. At first there are minor continuity errors, but only to the degree that could be put down to imprecise language or misleading statements in the original, then gets worse and worse until by the final episode the main character of the original series has never been born, the antagonist is already dead, and the worldstate is totally different from how it was at the start of the original

I was watching Clone Wars and thinking how fucking funny it would have been if in one episode Anakin just fucking died

concept: the year is 2034. i walk into work with coffee in hand. coworker is wearing cool shoelaces and i compliment them absentmindedly. they look me dead in the eye and say, “thanks, i stole them from the president.” scalding coffee leaks out of every one of my orifices and i hide in the bathroom convulsing for the rest of the day

@elphabaforpresidentofgallifrey can you explain this i don’t understand

it’s this legendary horror post

it is physically painful to remember that people have continued to join tumblr since 2012 and that there are people–perhaps people reading this! right now!!!–who don’t have the foggiest memory of this fucking post.  this post haunted me, do you understand, i saw and heard this code used in REAL FUCKING LIFE, I CANT FKJCLNG HANDLE THIS

okay but this unententionally happened at work. One of my coworkers has the same kind of shoes i have. same brand, style and colour. the only difference is the colour of the shoe laces. So i jokingly said “i like your shoelaces” pointing out that we have similar shoes and he legitimately said “i stole them from the president” i had to save face by pretending to not know what tumblr was and change the subject to politics.

Slave gravesite in New York City

“SOMETHING YOUR TOUR GUIDE MIGHT NOT TELL YOU:

The heart of NYC’s Financial District is built on a huge 18th century African Burial Ground. Some 419 Africans were discovered in 1991, a large portion women and children.

The burial ground extends from Broadway Southward under City Hall, and almost to the site of the former World Trade Center. It is believed that there are as many as 20,000 slavery-era Africans in graves under the buildings in Lower Manhattan.

Abolish historical amnesia and ponder for a moment the fact that this financial epicenter of the world is built on slavery, oppression, and death.”

Literally, and daily.

But if your tour guide, doesn’t mention this, they suck! It’s a big and acknowledged part of NYC history.

You can visit the memorial to the African Burial Ground:

Or the museum dedicated to it. Located at 290 Broadway, it’s run by the National Park Service and therefore free to all visitors:

There’s also public artwork in the Ted Weiss building’s lobby (the building being constructed when bodies were first found):

I literally teach a class on the African Burial Ground. It’s not as well-known as it deserves to be, but it’s not hidden either.

Disney: “2D animated films are dead, you can’t do them anymore, it’s all CGI from here.”

MLP: “Lol, watch this.”

Ok but the MLP movie WAS LITERALLY CGI

Toon Boom Harmony, friendo.

Some backgrounds were CGI and some staging of more complex scenes was done in CGI, but all of the character animation was done via Toon Boom Harmony.

its no different than how Aladdin used CGI for carpet.

STOP HAVING WHITE VOICE ACTORS PLAYING NON-WHITE ROLES

stop depriving non-white actors opportunities to act and get recognized!

Voice actors often don’t know who they’re reading for or what franchise they’re in (that’s what the strike was recently about, so they’d know whether they were in a small first time game or the 4th installment of a major franchise, if they were replacing a beloved voice actor, etc.) so please don’t harass the actors, until recently they legally didn’t have the right to know who they were reading for and were usually not told until months or even years later.

Definitely go after casting, directors, and studios executives. Those are the people making the decisions.

Example of a VA not knowing (and getting screwed on top of it).

They still don’t have the right to know. They got fucking nothing out of that strike. They can know the code name (which might be a serial number or whatever) and if it’s a sequel. That’s it. That’s the extent of the “transparency” they won from the strike.

As a perfect example of this controversy, if you haven’t looked up interviews surrounding Laura Bailey as Nadine Ross, it’s worth it.

Laura Bailey herself explained that when she auditioned for the role, she was given no information about what the character looked like. It was only after she was hired and arrived for recording that she was shown concept art and discovered the character was a WOC. She was uncomfortable about the situation.

Meanwhile, Neil Druckmann revealed that they were already working on concept art of the character when they hired Laura Bailey. They finalized the character’s design as a WOC after they’d hired a white voice actress, so that was a conscious decision. He was also very flippant about the situation as a whole.

Like people above have said: Yes, whitewashed casting is a legitimate and real issue. But unlike actors in film and stage, voice actors are often totally blind to what they’re auditioning for. They get fucked by NDAs and legal red tape bullshit. Go after the casting directors and execs and high-position game devs that knowingly make these decisions.

Unions have teeth. They need to start using them.

The laws set in place make it very difficult for unions to properly unionize. For example, they need to let their boss know 10 days in advance when they are going to protest or strike. This means within those 10 days the employer can look for any reason to fire the worker and put an end to it. The current administration is very any union.

Another aspect is that I just like bobble heads. And recruitment into my army is a lot easier when all the little kiddos are wearing my merch. Like, why wouldn’t you make merch? Everybody does it, except ponies. Like have you heard of a line of toys about colorful ponies? Especially ones that managed to get a TV series, and a movie?

Not likely.

But send in an ask if you’re up for it.

And hey, here is  a shameless plug.

So I’m sure most people have seen this comic on tumblr, posted/drawn by @william-snekspeare here. This is a very popular comic, one of many, that often goes viral every once in awhile, even on other websites (along with other similar comics). Lately it’s been going around again, and I thought I’d make a post about it to give some background information and dispel any misconceptions.

I personally commissioned this specific scene in comic form (and I have the physical copy as you can see above). I commissioned this back when I had owned Soba (my first ball python) for less than a year, when I was new to ball pythons. I had commonly heard–as is popular in the ball python community–that these snakes are “picky eaters” and going off feed for “no reason” is “normal” (to the point that you should expect it). Well, he went off feed, and it came off as what you see in the comic–him “not finding” food or “ignoring” it. I thought it was funny at the time, him coming off as dumb and cute, which is why I had this commissioned a few months later. This comic has nothing to do with how snakes “prefer live food” or anything like that. There’s no statement being made here, just to dispel that information going around.

That being said, I think it’s good to let it be known that the situation which this comic was based off is NOT cute or funny (at least, not in practice). It’s better to be said that ball pythons are “sensitive to their environment”, and as such, minor inconsistencies with their husbandry of any aspect (ex. slightly too cold, not enough hiding places, food doesn’t smell like food, etc.) can make them go off feed. Going off feed should never be assumed as normal, especially for a young ball python. Rather, it’s best to think “what is wrong and how can I fix it.”

If I had known this when I started keeping, I would have been able to avoid the brief period when Soba (quite literally) starved. He went from ~90g to ~60g within one month, and that is absolutely NOT normal and very concerning. By all means, nothing like that should have happened unless he had an internal parasite or something.

So, yes, this is a cute comic. I still love it, and it’s okay to think it’s funny. But I just wanted to take the opportunity to explain the background and purpose of the comic. I see many, many people constantly post things like “this is literally my snake”, “my snake does this all the time”, etc. But if your case is similar to what Soba’s was like, please take the time to double check your husbandry. If your young ball python isn’t eating, don’t assume it’s “normal” and that it will “eat when it’s hungry.” I can certainly guarantee that Soba appreciated that I learned better so I could improve his livelihood–and fill his tummy. :)

(For those curious, Soba was born around June 2015. He is a black pastel orange ghost.)

First image: April 2016, 395g (after I realized what I was doing wrong)
Second & third image: March 2018, 1140g

Oh goodness, I had no idea. I didn’t even know this cartoon was being used to spread the misinformation that ball pythons only like live food. I really thought this was just one particular silly moment, and didn’t see the harm. You know?

OP is absolutely right. If your ball python isn’t eating, check your husbandry. Make sure they’re not losing weight. Really keep a close eye on youngsters. I drew this comic and I never meant for it to spread the message that it’s OK to let your ball python starve.

Take care of your noodles and learn from your mistakes. They depend on you, after all!
