*shuffles my papers* alright class. welcome to homestuck lore 101. in may there will be a final covering octopimp and other notable homestuck voice actors

*continuing* please note that there will be a ten page essay on the ramifications of early homestuck vriskcourse and how it mirrors the dirkscourse that folllowed after it! i will not be requiring you to pick a side, but i want full citations and at least one first hand account.

All this for a god damn 101 class?!?!

if you feel you cannot handle the courseload of this class you’re welcome to drop it but the only other class available is classpect speculation and the teacher in that subject does NOT grade on a curve

I’ve gone to many Flat Earth websites and forums to try and understand the logic. I’ve tried to evaluate their data without bias, and at every turn it ends one of two ways. Denial, or metaphysical explanations. There is no rational, intelligent debate to be had at that point.

There is no shame in questioning things. That is the very foundation of science! However, science doesn’t end when you reach a conclusion you like. You don’t get to brush aside evidence that opposes you by blindly claiming it as fake. You don’t get to assert that just because I haven’t been to space or high enough to see the curvature of the Earth means your right. You have to explain the nature of why that object behaves the way it does. Why is it that Mars is round, but Earth is not? Why is Earth the exception? The facts of science are repeatable.

One group says FE is flat, one says it’s a bowl shape. One group claims there is a Firmament, or dome over the flat Earth. Some say satellites are fake, others say they are hovering in midair due to a magic wind with no explained source. Not even the people in the FE movement can agree with one another about how it works.

The very nature of these ridiculous claims would mean that nearly every industry in the world would have to be in on this lie. Hundreds of thousands, millions, or potentially billions of people having to swear to secrecy to protect… nothing. To live in a boring, tiny, unimaginative world with a glass ceiling and no infinite universe to marvel and wonder about.

Can I tell people how we started the fight and how it downed 3 of us to the point where one would have died if not for a shield?

If you think flat earthers are batshit, but you’re content to just let them have their weird geology in peace, you’re probably a middle of the road, life in the received wisdom lane type of person. That’s cool. Situation normal.

If you think flat earthers are wrong but you’ve done at least some research into it, you’re probably fairly intelligent and naturally curious, if not quite skeptical enough about conventional wisdom. Not bad, but you have a tendency to be over-trusting of rationalisations and excuses as a way of dodging cognitive dissonance.

If you are a flat earther, you’ve come to trust your own judgement and reasoning over the enormous pressure society heaps on you. Well done. Let’s not get cocky though, that’s how we ended up being duped in the first place.

If you decide to make snarky comments about flat earthers on tumblr, it goes to show you are the type to tread on and insult others to score a few social points from other narcissists. Making fun of marginalised, powerless groups takes no bravery whatsoever.

I know my reading comprehension is piss poor but did you just call flat earthers a marginalized group?

Flat Earth is a rejection of scientific data at a base level. The very same logical reasoning that birth such movements as anti-vaccination. A desperate, pleading call for information to the contrary while simultaneously rejecting all evidence to the contrary, only without the percieved moral dilemma involving children.

Choosing to arbitrarily dismiss evidence and science that lead to radical advances in medicine, technology, and civil rights, at least in my opinion, is spitting in the face of all of those that sacrificed their time and effort in the name of collective human achievement and calling them liars for the sake of that very same ignorance.

So no, I don’t think that level of ignorance should be so casually ignored, especially when it’s growing at such a ridiculous rate.

>calls people who don’t believe in flat Earth narcissists

>made a post where only the flat earthers are considered the ones doing things right, giving them praise for literally not listening to anyone else but themselves

hm.

I feel like Legend of the Guardians is one of the most beautiful CGI movies out there, but nobody ever talks about it like they do Frozen or Wreck It Ralph or Rise of the Guardians.

It’s so pretty tho

Maybe I should watch this. It’s about birbs.

The movie is beautiful, I like it as a stand alone film from the books.

Those were my childhood, man. I read them obsessively and it kind of made me sad to see such an epic journey cut short and flawed from how I remember it..all that lore..
