In this post I want to say that I’ve seen a lot of people comparing the 2003 FMA series with Brotherhood and I can understand why people still do it. But that’s not the point here.
Even though both FMA adaptations are connected, people often sees them as two separate from each other anime series.
At most of the time the majority of people would say they prefer FMAB over the original series, because it follows the manga pretty closely and it’s plot oriented.
But if you ask me which one I prefer, I would say neither of them.
The reason for my answer is pretty simple. I don’t see them as separate from each other in any way. I see them as two parts of one story. The flaws of FMA are covered by FMAB and the flaws of FMAB are covered by FMA. That makes this franchise so amazing and unforgettable.
FMA and FMAB both complete each other. I think you can’t fully understand the story if you watched just one of them. And that’s why I think comparing FMA 2003 and FMAB is completely unnecessary.
I hope there are other people out there, who share my thoughts on this topic.
Yesss, I just started rewatching 2003 after 5 years and I agree with you. I originally watched 2003 and then brotherhood and I think I does make a complete story. 2003 covers how dark the effects of the ishvalan war was and the atrocities committed and individual xharacter plots. brotherhood shows the different countries, alchemy, and military in a more expansive light and how the 3 interact with each other. I definitely think you have to watch both. And watch 2003 first and then brotherhood.
I wanna cry from happiness cause of your words. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I still stand by there somehow being a way to combine the two anime for the ultimate FMA experience but if we ever figure out how to do it perfectly the world would probably explode from the story’s perfection.
