Instead of a proper Possum of the Day, I wanted to make you guys pride icons! I’m aware that many of my followers are in the LGBT+ community (as am I), so I thought y’all might enjoy this as a celebration of pride month! Also, for the month of June, I will be changing to blog’s icon to reflect my identity! Happy Pride, everybody! (Free to use! No need to credit me.) polygamy and polyamory are not the same thing. polygamy describes the inherently misogynistic institution employed by some religions in which a man has multiple wives, all meant to serve him.
also interesting thing about moromon polygamy, it was done that way because on the trip to the area where mormonism was created, most of the med died and the women would have had a lot of trouble supporting themselves alone in the harsh settlement.
As I understand, the black and brown stripes were added in an attempt to be more inclusive of PoC in the LGBT community, since the focus often falls onto white gays. Without PoC in the community, we wouldn’t even have pride or the rights we do now. Intersectionality, in my opinion, is also vitally important. (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. I’m white so I’m certainly no expert on the matter.)
EDIT: I have also been informed that the black stripe is also there to remember those who died during the AIDS crisis.
People love to forget that LGBT was created by transwomen of colour.
