Broke: Barbie’s many different careers are a way to sell dolls and accessories to little kids.

Woke: Barbie had every single one of those careers and is an immortal timeless being.

Bespoke: Barbie’s different careers are different versions of Barbie from across the multiverse who occasionally swap place with each other or combine into one Barbie.

SO THERE’S SOMETHING Y’ALL SHOULD KNOW ABOUT…

Attack of the clones

I have often used Barbie to explain Greek mythology, and people laugh until I explain it, and then they get really serious and thoughtful.

I say, “The Greeks ascribed aspects to gods. Apollo had many aspects, but all were Apollo. He’s like Barbie that way. She’s an astronaut, a veterinarian, and a rollerskater, but no matter which of those things she is in the moment, she is always still Barbie. She is Barbie in her aspect as.”

Then people get not only the idea of “aspects” of godhood, but also, well, the changeable yet eternal nature of Barbie.

It feels taboo as a childfree person to admit this but I actually do have concerns about who is going to take care of me when I’m old. The elder care system in our nation relies A LOT on the unpaid care labor of adult children. I just don’t think that’s a good reason to have kids.

“But you’ll have more money!” does not completely put this to rest for me. Neither does “Buy care insurance!” Even if I can afford direct personal care, who is going to advocate for me to get it? Who is going to navigate bureaucracy for me when I’m 80?

“If you do have kids, there’s no GUARANTEE that they’ll take care of you when your old!” That’s true, but doesn’t solve my problem.

I think childfree people get very defensive about this question because its used as a kind of “gotcha!” against us, but I actually do not feel we can afford to be in denial about this reality. Based on current trends of more people in their 30s stating they intend to be permanently childfree, we are going to see a huge wave of childfree adults hitting the eldercare system at once in a few decades. Childfree people in their 30s should be advocating around eldercare NOW.

if i made tv shows i would insist on having those “previously on…” recaps at the start of each episode because they’re fun and also so i could use one of them to show a series of events that definitely never happened in the story before being like “oops! wrong timeline lol” and cutting to the actual opening and never acknowledging what the fuck just happened again

A comment from @/chargedint that says "Unreliable Recap".ALT

would there also be “next time on…” involving events that definitely dont happen and are the epilogue of the “previously on…” timeline?

Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019) dir. J. J. Abrams

When I saw this with a friend in theaters I leaned over and said. “Bold of them to do Poly and not one ship.”

to be fair, there is one ship literally in the picture. it may be a piece of junk but the millennium falcon still deserves respect

Oddly specific kinds of fanart I am ALWAYS a slut for

1. Stained glass window/church murals of characters

2. In-universe magazine covers

3. Redraws of scenes from canon in the style of a real Netflix show or video game

4. Drawing characters with way cooler outfits than they have in canon for the sake of cool outfits

5. Character design breaking down each layer and piece of a character’s outfit

6. Mimicking historical art styles (e.g. vintage posters, Victorian portraits)

7. Sprawling landscape paintings of the setting that you can barely even tell is fanart because its just a beautiful landscape
