I need to watch this episode bc like, tawog has a lot of moments thatreally need to be taken within contextThe episode is a critique on tumblr callout culture. If it feels ‘cringey,’ that’s because it’s supposed to. It’s the difference between someone who’s just trying to help and a performative ally who only wants to feel self-righteous
Context:
Cactus girl (Carmen) is being smug about trying to get Gumball to be a better person (cause he’s self-centered and lazy) and Gumball tries to ‘beat her at her own game’ (hence the cheesy sjw parody) except she actually is just trying to be a nice person (there’s a reply in the notes on this post that says something along the lines of “it’s not that the points Gumball’s making are wrong, it’s that he’s using them just to win an argument instead of actually helping anyone” and that pretty much hits this scene on the head).
Gumball eventually hacks into Carmen’s permanent record and uncovers a video of her being expelled from her former school, and attempts to upload it to the internet (effectively pulling receipts on her). Darwin makes the argument that Carmen doesn’t deserve that (she’s obviously become a better person since then) and she’s just trying to help Gumball by giving him constructive criticism. Darwin also points out that it doesn’t matter that she’s smug about it, her behavior isn’t anywhere near bad enough to warrant a retaliation attempt.
Carmen is a legitimately nice person and the only reason Gumball is even trying to argue with her is because she’s raising the expectations placed upon him, and Gumball (being self-centered and lazy) doesn’t want people to expect more from him.
The episode ends with Gumball realizing that yeah, Carmen doesn’t deserve that (cause even though he’s self-centered and lazy he’s a good person at his core) and accidentally uploading an embarrassing video of himself:
Honestly the people that didn’t realize the critique are the ones that *really* need this explained to them
Please, Mr. Crimeboy was my father. Call me Nasty
this post is neither cursed nor blessed, but incredibly powerful
It’s literally a former basketball arena. I’ve been there when the Rockets used to play there, it is HUGE could hold 20,000.
Supposedly the public shame and ridicule and photographic proof that this place isn’t flooded has forced him to open his doors… supposedly.
If people’s lives are saved, I’ll be delighted and thank God, but I’ll still be furious it took him this long to even consider it, only after all that backlash. The mosques, synagogues, and schools didn’t need thousands of people shouting at them to open their doors. And this is all from a man who pretends he preaches the gospel (he doesn’t, but that’s a story for another day). It’s the sad state of Christianity in America today.
Also, I would not put it past Osteen to have him hastily throw down a few mattresses in a hallway, take a photo, and call it a day just so people would get off his back. We should keep pressuring him to keep us updated to make sure people are being served.
