Interesting but rarely mentioned: most of the content burned that night came from the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (institute for the science of sex) headed by Magnus Hirschfeld. The institute and Hirshfeld himself were some of the first to openly campaign for the right to have sex with someone of the same gender, the right to transition if you did not identify with your birth sex and for the general acceptance of queer people. The team had already performed the first SRS operations in Germany and in addition, the institute advocated sex education, contraception, the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, and women’s emancipation. Photographs of the night of the book burning are plastered across history books world wide, but the queer movement that was destroyed that night often goes unmentioned.

DM: Congradulations. the blind pompup just says “follow me and you’ll see” while the deaf one shrugs and the mute one is making wild gestures that you dont understand. there is no way that any of them would have been able to be both intimidated and been able to tell you whats up.
Never mind the “Who shot first?” stuff; THIS is the defining moment of the Han Solo character:
Everyone else was just like: “Oh, fuck: It’s Vader!” and standing around in shock and terror when Vader was revealed. Even Chewie.
Most people, I suspect, would have that reaction.
Meanwhile, Han’s first reaction, instinctively, in less than a second, was to grab a gun and try to flat-out end the guy.
He failed, of course. But God Damn if you can’t appreciate the effort.
Also, he grabs his girl’s hand. Not only is he going to end Vader, he’s going to do so while reassuring the woman he loves that this monster who tortured her won’t hurt her again as long as he’s there to do something about it.
The point of this scene:
Han was nothing to Vader. Not really. Han was just a normal, average guy. Vader didn’t think too much of him.
“I have superpowers; you don’t!”
But then: doesn’t Han show more love, affection, guts and courage in this moment than any Jedi warrior ever could?
Thus, Vader is shown up.
Attempting to kill an evil wizard with a regular gun is one of the most Han Solo things ever. I don’t think most people would even bother trying, because you can’t just shoot Darth Vader, right? Of course not. But Han’s gonna goddamn try it anyway.
Yeah, basically’ Han tried.
Sometimes that’s all you can ever ask of someone.

With Han, you never have to wonder, “Why didn’t he just shoot them?” Whenever you’d think that, he shoots them.
Han Solo is a practical soul and if he’s got the chance to just shoot them he’s gonna take it
$300 billion just fucking gone in the stock market today and it’s honestly fine its just a 4.6% decline investors are not going to be harmed by this at all bc we can afford to just piss all that money into the wind it’s just a minor market correction but we can’t afford to provide healthcare or housing for people who are dying. We can’t afford $300 billion for education or feeding the hungry or replacing the goddamn pipes in Flint, MI that are poisoning people and causing miscarriages or for turning the power back on in Puerto Rico 4 months after the hurricane but we can just let that money vanish into the ether without anyone really affected by it at all. Capitalist efficiency at its finest.
