This is the best scene in the entirety of IZ imo it’s literally perfect
according to the staff commentary for this episode, the script actually called for heavy traffic to be rushing past Dib and Zim in this scene, which is why they’re shouting at each other, and you can even still sort of hear the sound effects
but then, for whatever reason, in the finished episode they just
forgot the cars
The lack of cars is because of a miscommunication with the animation studio, but since it was too late to fix, they just leaned into the absurdity of keeping all of the car sound effects instead.
They talk about a similar thing that happened in the commentary for “Walk Of Doom”, where a two-second animation of a police officer walking through the bank was accidentally drawn too big for the shot, so they sent it back overseas to get it revised.
But when they got the new animation back, he was even bigger.
They didn’t have the time or money to get a second revision done, so instead they just added these giant clomping boot sounds and a deep booming laugh as he walks by.

My little sister asked me why birds sing so early in the morning and i told her it was because Apollo plays music when he pulls the sun into the sky and the birds are singing along. the day after I told her that, she asks if we can sing a song as we walk to school every morning. Of course I say yes and now we do (she usually picks the song so usually it’s like stronger than you from steven universe or the miraculous ladybug theme song). When i asked her why she said “cus i want to sing with the sun man too” so like… I hope Apollo enjoys my 6yo sister and I serenading him every week day???

I love these scenes in Disney films. They almost always draw inspiration from the time period or setting the film is taking place. Mulan from the styles of old Chinese scrolls, The Princess and the Frog from retro American pop art, Pocahontas from ancient Native American paintings, Wreck-it Ralph from the 8-bit world of 1980s gaming. I love it all.
