we all know Vriska was the troll equivalent of a DnD enthusiast but I think it’s often overlooked just how big of an interest it was for her. i’m guilty of it myself!!
but all of the trolls are easily identified as being into x thing or y thing based on what’s in their rooms, even moreso than the kids; equius’ room is literally just robot parts and bows and horse art, there’s very little in terezi’s block save for dragon scales and piles of law books; and aside from the broken eight balls everywhere, vriska’s stuff is like 90% role playing merch!! it’s just dice and game posters and drawings of her character and character sheets. it’s just all role playing material.
im not gonna be the one to say it’s super easy to identify a homestuck character as being a nerd in the traditional, unadulterated 90s pop culture sense by the fact that they’re wearing glasses; but vriska is such a traditional, unadulterated 90s pop culture nerd
it’s worth noting too that while she did have a character and we know she played in some campaigns for herself, what we see in homestuck is largely her DMing a session, and that honestly just explains so much of her character, you know… her whole obsession with engineering the perfect villain… the fact that she thinks she has the know-how to organise an army to defeat the god of time and death… she spent 6 sweeps of her life writing stupid DnD campaigns for her friends and it could not be more obvious in literally everything she does

Soooo… now that everyone is running to know their own troll sign, we can deduce the kids’ too! We already have their Aspects and Moon Affiliations, the only thing we lack is their blood sign. While a friend suggested going for a simple zodiac-based blood color, I, being me, decided that was too banal. Hence I present you: the two possible signs for each beta kid (as established by their patron troll’s blood color, and their own text color), and the one sign for each alpha kid (as established by their text color!)
So, John’s patron troll is Vriska, which potentially makes him Scorus, Sign of the Victorious, a very apt title for our dearest Egbert, if I am permitted to express my humble opinion. If we base his blood color on his text instead, it seems to be closer to Indigo blood, which leads us to Sagius, Sign of the Traveler. Both very apt titles. (Personal opinion: Indigo Blood suits John VERY well)
As for Rose, her patron troll is Kanaya, which could potentially make her Virpia, Sign of the Perfectionist. Again, apt title. Otherwise, her text color comes quite close to Violet Blood, so she could be Aquapia, Sign of the Eccentric;. I personally think she might be leaning a bit closer to Jadeblood.
Dave, meanwhile, made me laugh because apart from being Libries, Sign of the Executive (the… executive? What?), he happens to perfectly match Aradia’s sign as Aries, Sign of the Excavator (Please, someone draw Dave and Aradia as excavators). So, uh, two completely ridiculous titles, although neither of the blood options leave me satsfied. Also, troll!fics with Aradia and Dave as siblings, anyone?
So I lied, Jade only gets one sign, too, because her text color and patron troll seem to both lead to Lime Blood. So she becomes Cango, Sign of the Opus. Opus, as far as I know, means work, as in, a production… and that leaves me very confused. But whatever.
On to the alpha kids! Since not all of them have a patron troll, I’m gonna just refer to their text colors.
Jane is Libsci, Sign of the Absolver. I like that title. You could write some very interesting fics based on that title. I also personally think Teal blood suits Jane well.
Dirk; gets Brown blood, which on my tablet screen actually looks orange, because it’s the closest thing we have. That means he would be Tauro, Sign of the Withdrawn. I’m tempted to say ‘truer words were never spoken’, except it’s not entirely true. But I said it. Oops. Also, Dammek’s blood color. more Strideer content.
Roxy (my love! My sunshine!) is a freaking princess, of course she is, look at her. Pittarius, Sign of the Philosopher. Pittarius sounds like a shoe brand. I… I don’t know what to think of it. An interesting sign, definitely.
And last, but definitely not least, Jake seems like he could be an olive blood, and thus Lenius, Sign of the Restless. At the very least, Olive blood seems to be very, very accurate.
