I have to hide my snake because ashs dad won’t even come into the house if he knew i had her.
I’ve had people literally threaten to kill my pet insects/spiders. It honestly bothers me so much that people are willing to kill something because they don’t understand it.
Heck my ow mother threatened to smash my tarantula with a hammer. My darling Ophelia.
I hate this shit. I have a coworker who freaks out every time she hears me talk about my tarantulas. She always says that if she ever saw them she would kill them with Raid. In what world is that acceptable? I wouldn’t threaten to murder her dogs??????
I myself am still a little on the uneasy side of tarantulas/snakes/etc, but I think they are amazing creatures none the less, and deserve so much more respect than they receive from the public. I just wouldn’t be able to have them as pets because I know I wouldn’t be able to give them the care they need, but I love learning about them and meeting other people who have and love them!
Right now I have 10 Dubia roaches who I lovvveeeeee, lol. They are seriously the puppies of the insect world.
I have no problem with reptiles, I think they’re cool. I might be a bit uneasy around insects/arachnids, but I definitely wouldn’t make comments like this. I might politely ask the person to move the tank with them into another room, but that’s it.
I’m glad that this post got as many posts as it did. Don’t be a dick, just because you don’t like an animal doesn’t mean others have to. Understand that people have an undying love for things like this, don’t shit all over something they love.
OKAY BUT AT THE SAME TIME if you have a pet that I’m uncomfortable with, and you KNOW I’m uncomfortable, don’t shove it in my face? Like I’m doing my best to not freak out so don’t threaten to set your snake on me, or to let your rats out of their cage while I’m sleeping
Backstory: My dwarven rogue HATES orcs because they’ve taken her father prisoner. Our team of adventurers were able to capture the head of the orc army, torture him for minimal information, and then put him in prison. My character decided to take responsibility for the orc’s continued suffering.
Me: How long would it take for me to break him so completely mentally that he obeys my every order?
DM: Well, you’re set to go to battle in three days…so longer than that?
