I keep seeing “callout” posts to the effect of “[popular artist X] once drew a picture of Invader Zim fucking Spongebob Squarepants, so they must be a huge weirdo pervert!”, and I’m like… have y’all ever actually met an artist?
Among most art communities I’m acquainted with, outlandish porn is a thing. Sure, sometimes it reflects some weird fetish on the artist’s part, but far more often, they drew it:
Because someone dared them to do it
Because someone claimed they wouldn’t do it
To hurt people’s brains (there’s a certain stripe of artist for whom “oh my god my eyes” is the highest praise)
Because they got into a one-upmanship contest with another artist and things got a little out of hand
Because some artists have this thing where if they get a bad mental image stuck in their heads, the only way to get it out is to draw it (i.e., a bit like dislodging a stuck song by humming the ending)
Out of pure spite
Never underestimate that last one; I personally know an artist who once spent the better part of two days hammering out a drawing of Inspector Gadget reverse-gangbanging the cast of Scooby-Doo because a buddy of theirs claimed that it was impossible for anything to shock them anymore, and they took it as a challenge.

Okay so like. I saw two or three different posts comparing Efi’s facepaint to the eye logo from the organization that’s after Sombra.
So then @tiberion was looking at the map of connections from Sombra’s little animation thingy:
It was leaked back in January that the new hero was a quadrupedal omnic (and female!!!!), and the same post leaked the Lunar New Year event, so it’s been right thus far (also apparently Mei is the next comic)
Now if we look next to the Numbani flag on Sombra’s web…
That’s an awfully omnic-like, quadrupedal-looking mechanical contraption there isn’t it.
And what’s that it’s linked to? The Doomfist gauntlet.
And now as I’m writing this, I’m realizing:
The Numbani flag is directly linked to Volskaya and the Russian defense mechs.
SO. My personal theories and things to take away from this: - I really doubt Efi is the mastermind behind this eye organization. I think it’d be neat though if the facepaint was a family/cultural tradition, and that group was the one running it instead. Efi would likely just be the child of someone in the group. Maybe a young and unwitting initiate? Who knows. - In her interview Efi said her parents were taking her on a trip to celebrate. I’m guessing it’s Russia, probably to see the mechs. It could be that Volskaya caught wind of her and is hoping to recruit her either now or in the future, or if the family thing is true, maybe her parents are gently pushing her in that direction. Maybe they have something prearranged with Volskaya that Efi herself may or may not know about. Maybe Efi knows about it and doesn’t like it and is trying to hatch a plan of her own - She and her omnic are somehow connected to the Doomfist. Hell, maybe she is Doomfist after all. Blizz said the new hero is not who we think it is, which most of us took to assume meant not Doomfist, but it could just be not the Doomfist we were expecting. Though the original leak post does say Doomfist is a black guy, but. Who knows. Maybe she’s the previous Doomfist’s kid or something
Also, mostly unrelated to all of this, but a cool possibility my boyfriend found:
