Yes, I understand that the homeless need help, but there are in fact quite a lot of homeless people who are homeless because of severe lack of responsibility. By that I mean gambling addictions and drug addictions. I’ve had a homeless guy yell at me for giving him a burger when he was begging for money for food as he claimed. When a homeless person asks me for food money and there’s a mc donalds or a small shop like a 7 11 nearby I might offer to go in and get them something, but I never give out cash because I’m warey that they could be lying and might spend on something that wont help their situation.

The homeless need help, and help includes not enabling any addictions they may have.

When a person sees a homeless or poor looking person begging for money, they are going to be skeptical because they wont be sure if that money is really helping.

It’s easier to trust someone who is well dressed and seems well off because you can expect them to spend exactly on what they need to, they appear responsible and trustworthy especially if they are older.

So really I encourage people who feel that skepticism to reach out to the homeless and offer to buy them something small as opposed to giving them money, that way you know for sure you’re helping them get what they NEED and not what they want.
