an easy bullshitter-test for Darren Wilson supporters is if they say something like

‘THE GRAND JURY MADE THE RIGHT DECISION!’

This shows quite plainly that they have no idea what they are talking about.

The grand jury’s job was not to decide whether or not Wilson was innocent or guilty. The grand jury’s job was to decide whether or not Wilson should be tried in court. When you are tried in court, you are considered innocent until you are judged guilty. So if you’re treating this decision like some grand proclamation of Wilson’s innocence, you’re either a troll or a bullshitter or an asshole.

Except in the most frivolous of cases, grand juries almost always indict. This is controversial, but it often makes sense. You have a case or an accusation and it needs to be figured out. So send it to trial. It has literally zero to do with deciding whether someone is innocent or guilty.

The key factor here is that a police officer was involved. I just said that juries almost always indict the accused, but when the accused is a police officer that statistic is turned on its head.

The main reason the grand jury did not indict Darren Wilson is because the prosecutor, Robert McCulloch made no attempt to persuade them to. The jury did not say “THIS IS INJUSTICE, WILSON IS INNOCENT, SET HIM FREE.” They listened to Wilson’s story, and no one attempted to convince them that anything else could have happened.
