For those following the news, 2014 ended on a sad note for the LGBT community, with the widely publicized suicide of transgender teenager Leelah Alcorn. Our fandom has more than its statistical share of trans* folk, making this hit close to home for plenty of pony people

Today (Jan 1, 2015) at 3PM Eastern/noon Pacific, join BronyCon founder Purple Tinker, BABSCon founder SonyaLynn, artist & fan VA Jitterbug Jive, and beloved comics artist (& official EFNW artist) Dana Simpson for your chance to pick their brains for charity!

Here’s how it will work:

For every $20 you donate (every penny of which, less any Paypal fees, will be sent to the Transgender Human Rights Institute), you get to ask one (1) of the panelists one (1) question, subject to the following limits:

Dana Simpson (comics artist, official EFNW artist) will answer any question about any of the following:
[1] Any of her comics or other art, or other aspects of her career (barring anything under NDA or other similar restrictions).
[2] Transgender issues in general.

JitterWhooves/BaldDumboRat (artist, fan voice of Derpy) will answer any question about any of the following:
[1] Any of his comics or VA work.
[2] Any transman/transmasculine issues.
[3] Pansexuality
[4] Questions about abuse

Purple Tinker (BronyCon & Bronies-NYC founder, Ponycon co-founder, podcast host) will answer any question about any of the following:
[1] The founding of BronyCon, Bronies-NYC or Big Apple Ponycon (besides personal information on show staff or other individuals)
[2] The Old Grey Mare or her other charity work.
[3] Her own transition, or transgender issues in general.

Sonya Lynn (BABSCon founder) will answer any question about any of the following:
[1] Anything about BABSCon, barring that which is under NDA or otherwise restricted access.
[2] Anything else, except personal information on other people or anything pertaining to EFN staff

The recipient of this money, The Transgender Human Rights Institute, is working to promote “Leelah’s Law”, which would ban anti-transgender “conversion therapy” that attempts to force transgender and gender-questioning/gender-variant youth to conform to their birth-assigned gender. It was this sort of coercive “therapy”, plus the impact of non-supportive parents and community members, which led to Leelah’s tragic suicide. Join us to help build a world where everyone is free to live their lives in the gender[s] they are most comfortable in.

It probably sounds shitty, but it feels like these people are just using this tragedy to inflate their own ego

Remember when BDR used the Derpy incident to draw attention to himself? Or when PT tried to purposefully sabotage Bronycon for her own purposes?

It just seems that these are the wrong kind of people to associate with a tragedy like this; they’re legitimately bad/self centered folk and it would be a shame to let them take advantage of something horrible like this

Purple Tinker’s got a bad history of being immensely self centered with an ego to rival Kanye’s. She has a habit of starting shit with other famous fandom members who try to “Bring her down” and won’t hesitate to step on others to get her way

Bald Dumbo Rat also just uses people; like how he used to insult furries all the time (But still drew porn for them to cash in on the money)

They’re both pretty awful people tbh

PT also seems to just stand with whichever side benefits her at the time.

Sometimes she defends us because of her feud with KNA, other times she treats us like Satan incarnate.

One minute she supports DWM and claims the fandom is full of rape apologists and the next she’s kissing up to JJ.

Sometimes she’s anti-adult-content, other times she stands up for it and claims she wanted an adult artist alley in Bronycon but they wouldn’t let her. 

She’s just really inconsistent and I really like dislike that in a person, find you’re ideals and stand up for them instead of changing yourself to suit whoever is current company.  

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. I’ve been kind of out of the loop for a while, and I’ve tried to catch up with what’s going on in the fandom. It genuinely HAS gotten better, but…I don’t know, I guess I just dislike that they chose some of these people to run a charity drive for something terrible that happened

It probably seems really shitty of me to complain, but it just feels like these are the wrong kind of people to be defending Leelah. They’re opportunists and just use others as a stepstool for their own purposes and are widely inconsistent with their morals. Taking the path of least resistance when met with criticism

Though the thing I dislike most about PT was that after the explosion in Texas and the Boston Marathon bombing she posted this gem

Which was when I lost all respect for her

Yeah, when she threw a massive fit about that and started blocking people people just because they were Christian is when I started to really dislike her. 

Wow. What a horrible, intolerant person. 

Yeah, one of her followers become a born-again-Christian and she called him a bigot and blocked him because of it. 

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of in my life. What a cock of crap. how can she dare think of herself as a good person when she treats people like that just for not having the same beliefs as her? She’s no better than an Islamaphobe. 

Meanwhile, despite the multiple logical fallacies (and use of Encyclopedia Dramatica as a source) and assumptions in these venomous reblogs, they raised $1,200 for transgender human rights! :D

Now watch as I too make an accusation about one of these people: “At least one of them are white, and that’s baaaaad!”

Excuse you. Somebody lost her life. These people are trying to bring attention serious social issues. Don’t you fucking dare say a fucking horse getting censored is anywhere near as important. Not only is that disrespectful to the LGBT community in general, but it is also very, VERY, disrespectful to Leelah Alcorn.
