Kindergarden was clearly them either mining out the insides of the earth to make more gems or planting gems in it. Either way, this is the thing pearl was talking about that was bad for the life on earth. All the monsters they fight are gems that go bad. Now imagine gems being born and going bad in masses. That is probably what Peridot is planning. Also, the repair bots didn’t come until Lapis Lazuli returned to the gem homeworld but that might be correlation, not causation.
