Depending on the rules governing time travel/predestination/etc, this strikes me as an excellent way to be mistaken for a UFO.

Actually there is a series like that. It’s called mindwarp and it’s a childrens boook series. Each book, a child reaches a certain age and gains a power before being kidnapped by evil aliens and escape. Later they all eventually find each other and it turns out they are all mising one of their parents. Then they discover the aliens are actually supersoldiers from the future sent to stop the mess the alpha group, another set of super soldier experiments, caused. The Alpha members all being a parent of the children.
So yeah, time travelers being mistaken for aliens has been done already. It’s actually a really good series and very underrated.
