there’s been a lot of talk on tumblr about negativity in the steven universe fandom, but i’ve been following it from the first episode and i’m pretty much totally unaware of that? have i just been lucky enough to not be exposed to it? i love steven universe but i’d hate to accidentally be complacent with problematic stuff

It’s only recent as in the last week or so that drama got big.
THe problem is that some people have the view that the SU fandom is the most pure fandom there is without any porn or bad fans anywhere and think that if a brony joins the fandom (which many have been for a while now) that it will “taint” the fandom.
The problem with this view is that it’s very ignorant and delusional. Bronies did not create porn of cartoons and the only people giving the SU fandom a bad name are the ones acting immature and not “sharing” their fandom with people.

But the thing is, bronies did create cartoon porn jfc? We don’t want this show being associated with assholes god damn. You already ruined MLP, stop.

No, porn of kids shows are made pretty much from the pilot episode. It’s been around since before 2010. And you don’t wanna be associated with asshole bronies? Congrats now you know how a majority of the brony fandom feels. It’s not our fault that there are assholes in our fandom that give us a bad name.

But then agian, every fandom has their share of assholes like any comic fandom who make fun of anyone who dosen’t know absolutely everything about the comic from the start or video game fandoms who will lynch a woman if they make a single mistake or even the SU fandom acting like it’s an exclusive club.

Well maybe not use the term brony? Assholes ruined it. Just like superwholock, when you hear that, you cringe. Its fine being a fan of MLP, I have friends who love the show but don’t use the term bring because dickheads ruined it. I’m sorry the fandom seems rude but we’re trying to keep gross people who will ruin the show for us out.

Because why should we let asshole minority ruin the name of the majority. I’m not going to change the name because I know that the fandom isn’t the problem, it’s just a few fans. It’s always the few worst fans that cause the whole name to go bad. Like, superwholock and homestuck fandoms aren’t that bad. Yes there are very loud fans but from what I’ve seen, most of them are pretty chill.

Like all other fandoms, they are horribly exaggerated due to the few shitty fans.
