How’s it unhealthy?
It’s making thousands of video game companies significantly more money
How is it unhealthy if it’s working perfectly exactly as planned?
Look at WoW with all its expansions and monthly fees
Look at PayDay 2 with the amount of content packs they’re able to keep making because of the amount of people buying them
Look at Killer Instinct being a 100% DLC game where every individual character is DLC and it’s one of the most successful fighting games ever made
Like I’m really not seeing the issue here
And YES I WANT TO PAY EXTRA
Do you know how much money I’ve put into free games like League of Legends and RIFT?
THOUSANDS
OF
DOLLARS
THOOOOOOOOOOOOUSAAAAAAANDS
Not just 5.99 for an extra two missions and a costume
THOUSANDS OF FUCKING DOLLARS
ON A GAME THAT’S ALREADY FREE
YES I WANT TO PAY MORE FOR GAMES THAN I ALREADY PAID
I WANT TO PAY LOTS MORE

It’s costing the players more and you really can’t say developers aren’t purposefully removing content from their game to sell back to you.
“Look at WoW with all its expansions and monthly fees“
It’s $15 a month, you can play for free now with WoW tokens, expansions give you a whole lot of content for their cost, and they end up free over time.
“And YES I WANT TO PAY EXTRA“
I think you’re the only one.
“Do you know how much money I’ve put into free games like League of Legends and RIFT?“
That’s the catch. A free game can charge you for dlc because it has no other way to make money. A 60 dollar game asking you to fork over additional cash is bullshit.
Now, I do think there is good dlc. Fallout: New Vegas selling expansions, giving you a new area to explore, new weapons to play with, and a new story? Good. Mortal Kombat X charging you to make Fatalities easier? Bullshit. We called those difficulty levels. There is no reason they couldn’t add an easy mode where Fatalities are easier to pull off. But no, they’re charging you. Because they think that little of you. They think you’re the kind of idiot who’d throw away their money on this shit. And from how strongly you’re defending it, you are.
I’ll pay more on games I love to support developers, too, buddy. It’s how they invest and get return with an interested and supportive audience.
God forbid companies don’t earn more than their initial game sales. More money for higher and more quality? Oh no!
The thing about content that can be purchased is that it should be extra content, bonus content. You shouldn’t have to pay for an essential part of the game like the ending or the thing that people actually want. the part that makes the game recognizable.
Which games force you to buy the ending?
It’s just an example of something that marketers have considered. We are just lucky they realized it would have been a bad idea.
Then why is it still being used as an argument point if it’s never gonna happen? Is it just to be anti-DLC?
I’m not anti DLC I"m just anti making an essential part of the game DLC
