Bruh, I’m 19 and still had that problem. Because it extended to the gameboy colour and the gameboy advanced. Backlights didn’t happen until gameboy advanced sp which wasn’t around until ‘05
If people start playing pokemon at the age of 5 or so, then people born in up to 1999 would have that problem. So yes, even 16 year olds can have that problem.
