i dont get this omg someone explain

in space, it doesn’t matter at all which way your ship is pointing, since there’s no gravity to affect it (and in SF you almost always have artifical gravity). there’s no up or down, left or right.

but in almost all SF, ships are all positioned as if there’s an established vertical and horizontal, because we’re used to seeing everything that way. all the ships are the same way up and they generally move forward and backward along a line.
