Heartbreaking Simpsons Moments 1/∞: Bart Gets an F
songofages

I never understood why it’s an F if he gets more than half out of 100? Unless it’s more than 100. If you get more than half the answers right how is it an F?

i-aint-even-bovvered

You must not be from America. Here, grading is fucked up.

heruut

Average American Grading Scale:
A+- 97-100
A - 94-96
A- - 90-93
B- 80-89
C- 70-79
D- 60-69
F- 59 and under

insanenerdfish

oh wow that is fucked up

relahvant

why do they skip E in america

wildembers

There’s an E in other grading scales?

well-metaphoricallyspeaking

And in some places in America it goes by a 7 point scale, so it’d be
A - 100-93
B - 92-85
C - 84-78
D - 77-70
F - 69 and below

flameoflight

Now you understand why American kid’s feel like there’s no point to school. If you have a 100 question text, and get 79 of them correct, that’s a C. That mean’s your Average Intelligence on this particular subject. And it get’s even worse when you have only like… a 10 question quiz. If you get two wrong? that’s a B. 80 fucking %. Now tell me again why American school’s are easier?

gouthesupermanager

No wait but whats the grading system in other countries?

bubblegum-momoi-satsuki

UK Grading Scale

100-70: A

69-60: B

59-50: C

49-40: D

Below 40: F

gouthesupermanager

ARE YOU FUCKING WITH ME?! THATS INSANE!!!!

punkrockluna

next time you try to tell americans that we’re stupid

i’m gonna remind you

that our “average” is your “A”

shrekiravevo

French system: a grade on 20, 40 on big exams, 10 for short tests. There are no real levels but kids made them: above 15 is great, above 10 is good, above 5 is a bit low and under 5 is bad. We are only judged by our unofficial system we do by ourselves, teachers often announce an average on tests so you know how good you did.
And it’s better like this.

i-am-a-bigger-fan-than-you

If you want to know why the United States has one of the highest student depression/anxiety rates in the world, please examine this post. Americans aren’t stupid, our grading scale is much harder.

trebled-negrita-princess

*Stewie voice* THIS IS WHY THE OTHER COUNTRIES ARE BEATING US, YOU KNOW!!!

tw00shy

Haha… there’s no D in my school… if u don’t get a C or higher, u fail.

trebled-negrita-princess

Since my university is on this bullshit plus minus system, if yeen got a C+ or higher you might as well drop out.

naturalhairactivist

Same, there’s no D in my high school, less than a 70 is an F

sweetkimchii

….are you kidding me? That’s fricking ridiculous

jaxblade

Well I got a UK B in My Bio College Course so i guess thats a way to put it but GODDAMN yoooooOOOO

fire-blast-pegasus

I can tell you, I only failed one test and one prelim. I’m Scottish. I got about 69-75% right. B every time for what I know. SO DAMN SOMEONE FUCKED UP THE AMERICAN SCHOOL GRADING SYSTEM.

I know! Also here are teachers aren’t paid NEARLY enough. Like you have to REALLY WANT to go into teaching to be a good teacher because it’s not like going into law or nursing where you can do it because you have a mild interest in it and can do it for the money. Teachers are also treated like shit by some parents, and often get blamed for the child not performing well. Like, I know not all teachers here are perfect, but it’s really disheartening to know that one of your favorite teachers is getting angry emails and conferences by parents of the laziest kid in the class who doesn’t do shit but acts perfect in front of the parents. Because ya know it can’t be the kid’s fault.

So, basically teachers barely get any respect. Because of all this we have ALOT of crappy teachers that just decided to do it for benefits or to be off in the summer and on weekends who don’t care about the kids. Seriously my fourth grade teacher was SHIT and I have plenty of stories about her…Anyway, on top of all this the class sizes are WAY too big. Like on average 20 students to 1 teacher. Which means if you’re a quiet student you’re not gonna get noticed when you need to be because the teacher simply CANNOT cater to you and the rest of their class.

Now they have this program called “No Child Left Behind” which is supposed to help this. Basically, if you’re bored in class because it’s not challenging enough or you are struggling and need extra help the school is supposed to cater to you and make a personalized program to help you. Now, I ask you, with shit pay, barely any respect, and crap benefits why would they want to do this for a few students? They DON’T. They put students (capable and handicapped) in a catch-all class that assigns them with a non-specific learning disability (or ADD if you were like me and bored as hell in class) that doesn’t actually help at all.

Plus teachers pick favorites and it’s not uncommon for the favorites to pass while those who the teacher dislikes to struggle and fail (again that 4th grade teacher. Or my math teacher in highschool who passed every football player there.)

So yeah it’s not just the grading system. It’s out whole school system.

slimeportal

And don’t even get us STARTED on the tests and exams.

silver-tongues-blog

Not to mention they only take “core classes” (math, science, social studies) seriously and refuse to acknowledge that you CAN do good if you go into arts.
As a result, arts are even more underfunded in an already underfunded school and if you’re good at something like music and that’s where your future lies but you’re bad at like, calculus, then the education system dictates that you are doomed to fail at life
