I understand what you're saying with the fandom Vinyl and Octavia ship being pretty bad. Though there were fanfics that did it right and were actually pretty good. First one that comes to mind was Vinyl and Octavia university days. It's a popular fanfic were they meet in college and it's pretty sweet. Listen to the reading from cherilax cause that guy's voice is awesome. Also there was my roommate is a vampire which. If twilight didn't suck donkey dick it would be that fic. Read em if you want
I understand that there are some good fics around but so much of the fandom is plagued with the abusive relationship. But now with them having a canon relationship that is healthy, I hope people learn how to write it well. However, tis unlikely because people still ship time bubble when the doctor is canonically oblivious about love and spends more time with rose luck than derpy.
