I work at a fast food joint, and while a majority of our customers are as sweet as can be, we always get a few assholes that come in. Now, seeing as I’m the main cashier who closes on night shift, our manager loves to put new hires with me to train. I don’t mind. In fact, I usually enjoy having someone helping me with work and to talk to seeing as I’m usually alone. But the biggest issue we have is the register. Understandable, since at this place you have to speak the order into a microphone while it’s being rung up. It’s harder than it sounds, especially when you don’t know the menu.Until new hires get the hang of it, I’m usually always behind them and helping them, making sure we get the right thing ordered and people are happy.

But the thing that pisses me off more than anything is when people give the new employee a hard time. Like, if I’m standing behind them, it should be pretty obvious they don’t know what they’re doing yet. Sometimes they mess up, sometimes they get nervous. But this is why I’m there. This is what I’m getting paid to do

I’ve had plenty of people start arguing with me, simply because they’re not being clear on what they want to order. And then after we get everything straightened out, usually I get people harassing my trainees giving them tips; (Hint: Unless you work in fast food too, most people usually find this extremely annoying and snobby of you) or just telling them how horrible they are, or lashing out at me.

Look, training employees can be hard. We’ve all been trained on a new job. We’ve all been there, done that. Try to be courteous to new people. They’re learning. Besides, would YOU want to be yelled at first day on the job?
