I loved Inside Out but I wasn’t feeling Pixar’s short before it, Lava.

While I thought the music and sentiment was nice I found the female character design really weak. The male character looked like an actual volcano and was worn and ugly looking and then the female character, even though she’s a gosh darn volcano is made to look “beautiful”

Like, I don’t see why this was necessary to give her a dainty little mouth, a refined jaw line, long hair, etc. Why couldn’t she be the same as him? Honestly she falls back into the Elsa, Anna, Rapunzel, Honey Lemon, every other thin, bug-eyed female character.

And she’s a volcano. She’s JUST a volcano. Couldn’t let a volcano slide and be anything less than hot huh?

Other than that it was a pretty sweet short.

I haven’t seen Inside Out yet but that really sucks.

I laughed the first time I saw her. I just couldn’t believe what I was looking at.

But how would we know that the volcanoes were heterosexual if we didn’t make her look like a human woman?????????

This really bothered me actually.

Okay, this short was cute but when the female volcano is brought in, she looks like someone sculpted her into a female human. She has hair for pete’s sakes. Not only that but she has tiny, curvy lips and her face is smoother. Did anyone notice that?

It’s also weird but look at the male volcano. His mouth is HUGE compared to hers. Why does she have to have the small lips and eyes?

How are you all going to ignore that Inside Out also does this? The three “girl” emotions fall into this same garbage while the two “boy” emotions look like goddamn aliens. I haven’t seen the movie but it takes 2 seconds to look at the “variety” (or lack thereof) in the emotions’ looks to tell that this same thing applies.

The last point is moot because the same would have been said if the genders for the emotions were swapped. People would read it as the movie saying girls are easy to anger and scare easily.
