I used to work at a self-serve froyo place and the cost of the froyo is based on how much it weighs. We were required to catch everyone who came in and ask if they’d been there before so we could explain how it worked if they hadn’t. My favorite thing was when customers who hadn’t been to this particular chain but had been to a similar one would complain about how much they had to pay for the froyo. Like, you literally control the price. It’s not our fault you want two pounds of ice cream.
But my FAVORITE story was there was a woman who would always leave with her froyo (you had the option to sit inside, outside on the patio, or get a to-go lid) and then come back in because she’d “find a dark hair in her froyo”. We had one dark-haired employee who always mixed, poured, and stirred the froyo in the machines, but the owner of the store was a huge stickler about hygiene, so he always wore a hair-net, a hat, and gloves when he worked. It’s possible that he could have lost a strand of hair, but the same woman came back multiple times, claiming she found hair in her froyo, and not one other customer ever complained about finding hair. She would bring her cup back in and demand a refund plus another free cup, and we’d have to give it to her because we couldn’t prove that it wasn’t from an employee. We were fairly certain the woman was putting her own hair in her yogurt, but we couldn’t do anything about it. By the 4th or 5th time, she had actually left with her froyo, kept it in her freezer overnight, and brought it back to us the next day to show us there was a hair. We told her she wasn’t getting any more refunds or free yogurt after that because she’d left with it and had it for at least 12 hours, and we weren’t going to compensate her any more because she was the only customer having that issue. She wasn’t happy with that and threatened to tell the owner, but the employee she was accusing of leaving hair in the yogurt was the owner’s brother, so we were like “yeah, good luck with that.”
