Okay, this is gonna be a big rant. I know I’m not the first guy to rant about how terrible Teen Titans Go is but I feel this needs to be said. Just a heads up there will be swearing in this (and I usually don’t swear, that’s how angry this has made me).
Before I start I just want to state that if you happen to like Teen Titans Go or even like this specific episode, that’s okay, it’s your opinion and I respect that. These are just my personal feelings on this episode in particular. So let’s begin.
You probably know about Teen Titans Go and how incredibly mean spirited it is by having the characters act like total jerks. You might also be familiar with they react to criticism, that being they address the several problems with their show just ignore it and go about being stupid.
Well they recently did an episode entitled “Slade Returns” and it features possibly the hugest trolling middle finger to a fanbase that I have ever seen in the history of the moving drawing!
Just take a look at how the cartoon begins.

Yep, you just saw that. They defeated Slade off-screen. The only reason they put Slade into this episode in the first place was to raise curiosity from the original Teen Titans fanbase so that they’d watch this episode. Not only that but with the scene soon afterwords they basically say "Oh you want to see something actually good from us?! WELL FUCK YOU! WE’RE GONNA CONTINUE BEING STUPID MINDLESS ENTERTAINMENT!“
But believe it or not, that’s not even the worst part. The Worst part is…
UGH!..
Okay, gotta relax…
In the episode they celebrate the defeat of Slade by getting a clown to come to a party as suggested by Beast Boy and Cyborg (or rather their mindless clones), because they loved clowns ever since they were kids and haven’t seen one in a while, but when they see the clown he doesn’t hold up to their expectations and… Oh I think this clip sums it up:
…Yes, you just saw that. OH and does it get worse? YOU BET YOUR SWEET SNAGGLEPUSS IT GETS WORSE!
So, to go over those last two scenes again, when Beast Boy and Cyborg complain about the clown they’re saying almost quote for quote direct criticism that both Teen Titans Go and several other bad cartoon shows have gotten.
And oh, what were those lines of dialogue said by Raven and Robin?
“Clowns are FOR KIDS!”
“Clowns were never cool. You’re letting nostalgia cloud your memory.”
“Just so you could enjoy something that you should have outgrown.”
…I repeat,
“Should have outgrown”
In short this show basically says to the audience, more specially the adult audience, “Stop watching cartoons and complaining that our’s isn’t as good as the ones you remember, cartoons are only for kids, stop watching cartoons.”
And to that I say FUCK YOU TEEN TITANS GO!
Even near the end Beast Boy and Cyborg basically say how “We could only enjoy clowns when we were age appropriate to enjoy them. We’d better let go of our childhoods.”
Now I know kids have certain different tastes from adults, heck, back in the day I used to love toilet humor in cartoons and now I can’t stand them, but kids deserve better! Kids aren’t mindless morons, they’re smart, they have feelings they’re human beings! They deserve as much respect as adults get and they deserve quality entertainment! Oh and to say that people can only watch cartoons when they’re kids is just…WRONG! It’s just wrong!
It’s that kind of backwards thinking that made animation go into a dark age for so long! Not only are you insulting the original Teen Titans and fans of the original Teen Titans but Animation as a whole! Once again, FUCK YOU TEEN TITANS GO!
Okay… Sorry if that went on for a bit too long but… I just felt like that needed to be said.
Once again if you happen to be a fan of Teen Titans Go or even this episode, go ahead and like it, it’s your opinion and your entitled to it. I wanted to like Teen Titans Go, I was in full support of the series back when it was first announced, but the series is just too mean spirited and too full of itself for me to like it.
But if I ever want to revisit the show the original series will still be there and I hope that more people will discover it and see just how great it was (*causally leaves link to the first season box set on Amazon*). And luckily this is only one series, it’s times like this were I’m glad the majority of kids entertainment features shows with much more depth and respect for kids like Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show, Wander Over Yonder, and several others.
I just personally hope people aren’t taking the message of this episode seriously, because animation is for everyone and shouldn’t be thrown into the “Just for Kids” corner of entertainment!
Wow, that is shit. Someone really needs to punch whoever let teen titans go be created in the face.
