Actually, Homer worked for the stuff he earned. he may have been a complete idiot but he was a great singer which lead to his grammy and his reputation in the music business is what introduced him to the smashing pumpkins. Everything else he did was completely legit. He didn’t live off of the work of others. hell, the fact that he has a fair amount of money and actually spends it helps the economy because he’s not letting it just sit and gather wealth.
