Game idea: You play as a humble peasant who must fight off waves of adventurers who feel entitled to just waltz into your house and loot whatever they please.

LET GO OF MY CHEESE WHEEL YOU JERKFACE

Humble Peasant kills adventurers that enter their home

Humble Peasant keeps their weapons, magic items, and hold

Humble Peasant realizes that stronger and stronger adventurers are coming to claim their growing pile of loot

Humble Peasant builds traps and fortifications to keep them out

Humble Peasant procures exotic pets to help defend their home

Humble Peasant continues to amass more and more loot and attract stronger and stronger adventurers

Humble Peasant has to keep building up and fortifying their home, traps, and pets to keep the adventurers out

Humble Peasant suddenly realizes that they have accidentally built a dungeon. It’s a fucking dungeon now. It’s fortified and full of traps, monsters, and treasure, and the Humble Peasant is the boss.

Humble Peasant realizes that adventurers will never leave them alone now.

Humble Peasant hates adventurers.

Humble Peasant accidentally becomes major villain.

I’d play it

I would play the shit out of that

Where’s the kickstarter so I can help fund it?

If you’re going to go the evil villain route, make it subtle. For example, say the Humble Peasant (or HP, for short), picks an arcane tome from a dead wizard, and wants to learn what’s inside it. However, HP can’t read. So, during the time that HP would usually use for trapsetting, he can also go to the village priest to learn how to read, giving him access to low-level spells (which can also be used to buff your traps in new and interesting ways, as well as being used to frighten smaller, dumber monsters into obeying you). As you can imagine, higher-ranking magic users have more powerful spells, but those require a more precise grasp of arcane language, with different ‘dialects’ for different schools of magic (like the difference between Algebra and Differential Equations). In order to understand those, you need to venture farther afield to find specialists who can teach you more. Can’t convince any of them to teach you, eh? Well, HP, time to learn the fine, hallowed art of kidnapping motherfuckers. Now you’ve got a live-in teacher/spell translator/unwilling pet who can help you expand your horizons!

But alas, you’re sick and tired of waiting for adventurers to come along with new spells- you want to get ahead of the game! Well, now you have to actually go out and steal tomes of arcane knowledge from universities, temples, ancient shrines, decrepit ruins that give you the willies- you know, ‘fun’ places. The spells there give you a major edge over those pesky adventurers, but they seem to be coming in greater numbers these days… and they seem to be pretty angry… Why are they calling ol’ HP the “Dark Overlord?”

Boom. Villain. Standard-issue slippery slope of darkness.

Actually I think this game exists already

Don’t remember what it was called, but it exists

Overlord. It’s literally called overlord.
