also does anyone else think it’s weird that sj treats google as a reliable source?

i’m not here to educate you, google it

like why google if this stuff is actually so important to know?

This one always really bothers me because google results will randomly change so even if you checked like a month ago to make sure you could find the answer that way it’s not uncommon for the results to change.

So when you tell someone to google something you might end up sending them into results that consist of “why <thing you sent them to google for> is bullshit and stupid” instead.

One example I used was maybe a year ago? the first google results for my illness were comparing it to somatoform disorders, in other words if I sent people to “google mitochondrial disease” they would get a bunch of results saying “is this even a real illness or are people making it up” which is the absolute worst thing you would want people to see.

and that is an illness you can test for at least somewhat, so it’s harder to say that it’s made up. If you are telling people to google something like fibro which has a much bigger issue then that it’s much more likely.

Also google results are based on YOUR searches too, so what you are seeing may not be what other people are gonna get. You should not be sending people to google.

Not just time. Google does something called ‘Bubbling’, which is a case of wanting the maximize your search results by showing you more and more of what you’d most likely like to see, not just what’s “relevant.”

The end result is that, even at the same time, the search results one person gets can be vastly different than what another person gets.

Which is why I love the people who complain when they search generic MLP terms all they get is pony porn. Google has used your own search history to decide that’s what’s most relevant to your interests.
